Summary
- Fans discovered cut dialogue for Cora referencing her fictional backstories for three robots, Flan, Gertrude, and Buck, that were intended to be in Starfield.
- Cora was meant to be a crew member with a larger role, even asking for payment in books, but this was cut.
- Bethesda probably made the right decision in cutting this option, as sending a 12-year-old girl to work on remote outposts alone likely would have been controversial.
dialogue options that were cut further into development than one would expect.
Recently, Redditor Deebz__ has shared footage of cut dialogue for Sam Coe's daughter, Cora, in which she explains her fictional backstories for three different Vasco type robots that were due to be found around Constellation's headquarters, The Lodge. Sadly for fans of the robot companion, these additional characters, affectionately named Flan, Gertrude and Buck, were also cut from the final game.
While this dialogue is fun and shows the young bookworm's imagination at play, Deebz__ also commented that Cora was also intended to be a proper crew member, not tied to Sam, which would have given her a much larger role in the game.

All Companions In Starfield & Shattered Space, Ranked Worst To Best
Starfield has 29 different companions to choose from, and some are certainly better than others. Here's the full list, ranked.
Cora Coe Could Have Been A Proper Crew Member
And Would Have Accepted Payment In Books
Anyone who has played Starfield already knows that Sam Coe was a pretty awful parent for bringing his 12-year-old daughter with him to dangerous planets when serving as the players' companion, even if she was left behind in the ship. This doesn't make matters much better, as she is left alone on an unfamiliar planet as her father goes off to engage in gunfights with Spacers or alien creatures.
However, the notion that Cora could have been a full crew member could have been even more problematic, as players would have been able to assign the child to work on an empty outpost on her own on a planet many star systems away. Deebz__ noted that there was already dialogue recorded by Cora's voice actress, Aly Ward Azevedo, in which she asked if players could pay her with books for her work as a crew member, something that should amuse anyone who has tried to give Cora one of the many novels found in the base game to little avail.
Despite serving as a crew member, there is no indication that Cora would have been a follower too. This is probably for the best, as doing quests alongside someone who is essentially a child soldier probably could have been controversial, even if having a companion of a smaller build could have worked well for those trying to play the game with stealth in mind, as she could remain hidden behind cover easier than the likes of the larger robot Vasco or other adult-sized allies. Therefore, it's completely understandable why Bethesda may have streamlined the character's role in Starfield.

Bethesda Game Studios presents Starfield - the first original IP from the studio in twenty-five-plus years. Set in the year 2310, the United Colonies and Freestar Collective are observing a shaky truce after a war set 20 years prior. The player will customize their character as a member of a space exploration team called Constellation while navigating The Settled Systems and the conflicts between the warring factions. According to Bethesda, players can explore over 100 systems and 1000 planets to find resources and build their ships, living out their own sci-fi journeys.
