Starfire's New Costume Shines in Amazing Variant CoverStarfire Szerdy Cover DC Comics

A variant cover from artist Nathan Szerdy for Titans #1 shows off the new look for Starfire with a gorgeous close-up. Starfire is adrift in space, her eyes and fist glowing that familiar green energy of hers. Her fiery hair is braided into an incredibly long ponytail that flows wildly behind her. Starfire is wearing the new costume she'll have in the new Titans book. Like her original outfit, it's purple and features some ornate jewelry. It's also a bit revealing, and yet more modest than many of her previous costumes. Koriand'r looks at the viewer with a warm demeanor, but the energy accumulating in her fist shows that she's prepared to go on the offensive at a moment's notice.

Szerdy's cover really does capture Starfire's best qualities. Her friendliness, her calm demeanor, and her regal, but also battle-ready outfit. Some artists may find it hard to give the Titan an outfit that honors her past incarnations, but one that isn't excessive or impractical. After all, there's a long and unfortunate history of superhero women being given costumes that barely qualify as swimsuits much less a decent costume for fighting. Starfire's new look is the perfect balance that honors her old appearances while reinventing her for the modern day.

Starfire Finally Has the Perfect Superhero Outfit

Comic book art: Titans walking heroically, featuring Cyborg, Starfire, Raven, Nightwing, Beast Boy, Wonder Girl, and Flash

When it comes to the Titans' , only a few have a truly iconic look (namely Nightwing and his slick blue and black outfit). Starfire's had a number of costumes over the years, but her new outfit is one of the best yet. As Szerdy's cover shows, it's simple, elegant, and bold, without it being too out there. Princess Koriand'r has been around long enough to deserve an iconic look of her own and hopefully, Szerdy's variant will go a long way to cementing Starfire's new costume as her definitive one. Fans can see Szerdy's variant featuring Starfire's new outfit when Titans #1 goes on sale May 16th.
