Speaking with cancellation of Station 19. According to Clack, she was on a when she got the call, wondering if it could wait. Upon hearing, she raced to leave so that she and Paige could tell the cast and crew themselves. Check out their full quotes below:

Clack: We were what, two days into shooting the new episodes? And we got the call.

Paige: I was at home. Weren’t you, too?

Clack: No! I was on a , in front of, like, 100 people. I kept getting calls, and I finally texted and said, “Is this important? I’m in front of people!” And they were like, “OK, you can wait.” And you know how sometimes after a people want to talk to you? [I didn’t do that,] I just got on the phone and then I was told. I called Peter as soon as I heard and was like, “Why did this happen?” as I’m driving to Disney.

Paige: Basically, we got the news and were like, “Get the cast in, get the writers, get the crew assembled… Make sure they’re all going to meet us at lunch!” Then we raced, raced, raced to tell them before there were any leaks. We wanted to make sure they heard it from us.

Why Was Station 19 Canceled?

Station 19 spanned over 100 episodes. Over this time, the series was well-liked among viewers, receiving a 92% audience approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The show also holds a 7.0/10 score on IMDb, which is lower than Grey’s Anatomy’s 7.6. Given its popularity, it was a surprise when it was announced that Station 19 would end after season 7.

Disney Television Group President Craig Erwich recently explained the reason for Station 19’s cancellation in an interview. According to Erwich, Station 19 was cancelled because it was simply “time to bring that story to an end” as the series had reached a natural conclusion. Erwich went on to praise the series for how much it had become its own entity, separate from Grey’s Anatomy.

Station 19 had many storylines cyclically return in its 6 seasons, but season 7 being the last makes their conclusion necessary before the show's end.

The timing of this cancellation was particularly unfortunate for Clack and Paige, who had just become showrunners in April 2023. Just eight months later came the December announcement that Station 19 would end with season 7, giving Clark and Paige just one season to work on the show and wrap up its storyline. The end of Station 19 is certainly disappointing to many viewers, but hopefully, the series can offer a satisfying conclusion.

Station 19 is available to stream on Hulu.
