Netflix's VP of Original Content says there are no current plans for a second season of Marvel's team-up show lackluster response from fans and critics, and since its premiere almost a year ago there has been no news of plans for a second season.

Of course, Marvel's slate of Netflix shows is pretty full already. Originally the intention was to have the five superhero shows in total - a season of each of the solo series, and a team-up in The Defenders - but the strong positive response to Daredevil resulted in Frank Castle getting his own show, which premiered in November 2017. Per Iron Fist season 2 is on the way soon, after all), and more to do with the logistical nightmare of getting the stars of four different ongoing series to all take time out for a team-up show. "The biggest issue was the timing of production and launching of The Defenders, because what that meant is we had to shut down all of the shows, so all the actors [could] be available," Holland explained. Holland was also asked about the possibility of adding more shows to the current Marvel roster on Netflix, but says there are no current plans there either. However, she did say that "There’s always an ongoing discussion about spinning off additional characters into additional properties," so people who are hoping for a Daughters of the Dragon show shouldn't give up hope.

Netflix's confirmation that The Defenders season 2 isn't in the works tallies with Marvel TV boss Jeph Loeb's recent comments in a Reddit AMA. When asked about the possibility of another team-up, Loeb said that it's "not in the plans right now, but you never know!" Perhaps New York City's street-level superheroes are better off sticking to their own turf; after all, asking fans to get caught up with four different shows just to prepare for one team-up miniseries is a pretty tall order.
