Especially with the newly revealed Thundercloud development, the Storm Sanctuary is fitting for Ororo as DC’s big three heroes, Wonder Woman, once had her own floating fortress called the Wonderdome, and the Storm Sanctuary/Thundercloud could be seen as an even more elevated version of that. The Thundercloud teases serious firepower to go along with the Sanctuary’s lush nature reserve for all of Earth’s creatures, perfectly capturing Storm’s character in one multi-faceted vehicle.

Storm series writer Murewa Ayodele has also teased that there are still more secrets about the Storm Sanctuary that will be revealed as the series progresses, and the Thundercloud could be established as even more powerful than it seems as more of its story is unveiled. While Storm prepares to take on a role in the X-Manhunt and her arc with various Storm Gods, her Thundercloud has a chance to show off more of its tricks. It’s already pretty marvelous, but the full extent of the Thundercloud’s history and all that it can do still remain to be seen.

The grand scale and destructive power of the Sanctuary sees it as a haven with its own ecosystem, as well as a flying destructive force, making it a vehicle, a weapon, and a home all at once. Batman may have a lot of fancy tools at his disposal, but he and comics’ other major heroes do not have anything that compares to the breadth of the Thundercloud. In her new solo hero era, Storm’s massive vehicle upgrade makes something like the Batmobile look utterly obsolete – and shows why she’s left the X-Men’s Blackbird behind for bigger and better things.
