One of the biggest fears going into the fifth and final season of Stranger Things surrounds the fate of the four main boys. In the past, people pointed out a lack of risk-taking, criticizing Stranger Things for not killing any main characters — but now that the final season is approaching, it seems that all bets are off and anyone could be the next to go. Since the show began, it has always been Mike (Finn Wolfhard), Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo), Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin), and Will (Noah Schnapp) working together to uncover the mysteries and fight against the monsters in Hawkins, but now some of them could meet their end.

However, in 2017, it was seemingly confirmed by Stranger Things costume designer, Kim Wilcox that all four of the main boys will survive to the end of the show and beyond. However, while the four main characters of the show might be safe, the same can't be said for other of the Max's (Sadie Sink) fate in Stranger Things is especially uncertain following the end of the show's fourth season.

The Stranger Things Boys' Costumes In The Season 2 Finale Confirm They Survive The Show

According to GamesRadar.com and a post on X, Kim Wilcox revealed that the suits that the four main boys wear to their Snowball dance foreshadow what their future careers will be. This is enough evidence to suggest that at least in 2017, there were no plans to kill off any of the four main boys and that they will survive the attacks on Hawkins from the Upside Down. As well as confirming their safety, this statement also allowed audiences to begin to theorize what the characters will go on to do later on in life.

All four of the suits look completely different from one another. One might expect that at a middle school dance, most suits would look the same, but none of these are identical. Out of the four suits, Will's looks the most familiar, bearing a striking resemblance to the costume worn by Mr. Clarke (Randy Havens), the science teacher in the show. This could indicate that after the events of the show, Will Byers also becomes a science teacher or at least an instructor of some kind.

Anyone Could Die In The Final Chapter Of Stranger Things

If it is the case that all four of the main boys survive the events of the final season, it means that all the other characters are more in danger of dying. Yet the showrunners need to be careful in deciding who to kill off. There is much speculation about Steve (Joe Keery) losing his life in Stranger Things, but it would be truly heartbreaking as Dustin has already lost Eddie (Joseph Quinn); it would just be cruel to have him lose Steve as well.

10 Stranger Things Scenes That Define The Series

Stranger Things has been through countless brilliant episodes since the first season, with certain scenes still standing out many years later.

It would also make no sense for the show to kill Hopper (David Harbour) as they did that at the end of the third season, just to bring him back again. Even Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) wouldn't bode well for the show, as viewers have been invested in her story since the beginning, and it would be a tragic end to a tragic, short life. Most of the characters on the show are lovable and have gained a huge fanbase, so whoever the creators decide to get rid of, it will probably be heart-breaking to watch in the final season of Stranger Things.
