The romance between The Vision and Scarlet Witch depicted in Avengers comics over the years have just been odd.

Team often pair up with each other, which isn't all that strange, but some of the pairings have been odd. Factoring in alternate timelines and different universes within the comics, things get even stranger. And a few Avengers relationships are best left forgotten to the past.

Quicksilver And... Scarlet Witch

Ultimate Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch.

Quicksilver is Wanda's brother in the comics and her fellow Avenger and member of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. In the Ultimate Comics universe, an alternate reality established in the early 2000s by Marvel, the same is true. But the two of them are more than family. The strange and cringe-inducing romance between Wanda and Pietro is referred to in an increasingly lurid fashion in the Ultimate line until she is killed and he participates in their father Magneto's attempt to destroy the world.

Black Knight And Sersi

Black Knight and Sersi are set to appear in the MCU movie Eternals, and it's likely their relationship from the Marvel Comics will play some role. These two were of the team in the late 80s and early 90s, and their romance is equally strange and tragic.

At one point, Sersi was targeted by a villain named Proctor from the future. Later it's revealed that Proctor is in fact an alternate version of the Black Knight, who has been hunting down every version of Sersi in the multiverse. Given the direction of the MCU into the multiverse concept, that idea could play a role in the movie.

She-Hulk And Thor

She-Hulk and Thor embrace in Marvel comics.

One of the oddest Avengers pairings is one of the most recent. She-Hulk and Thor connect in the recent cosmic crossover Empyre, which sees the end of the Kree/Skrull War with the ascension of Hulking (the husband of Young Avenger Wiccan). It's not hard to imagine that Thor and She-Hulk would be impressed by each other, both being powerful and attractive heroes who work together a lot. But it's a different move for both, who tend to pair up with partners who are very different than they are (and usually non-powered).

Wolverine And Hercules

Wolverine and Hercules kiss in Marvel Comics.

The love affair between Hercules and Wolverine is only strange in that it's probably never going to be more than a thread in the greater web of the multiverse. In one alternate reality, the Avengers were lovers. Fans met them when the X-Men formed a team - X-Treme X-Men - to hunt down evil versions of Professor X in different universes.

The relationship was so unique because it was so unexpected. Little prepared fans for the idea of a gay Wolverine, though recent events in the main Marvel Universe have shown it may not be limited to Hercules. In the Dawn Of X titles, Wolverine is teased to be in a polyamorous relationship with Cyclops and Jean Grey.

Scarlet Witch And Captain America

The Vision is not the Scarlet Witch's only lover among the Avengers. When she first ed the team in 1965, she harbored a crush on Captain America. Nothing really came of this as Wanda quickly met The Vision. Years later, they would reconnect on the precipice of one of Wanda's worst moments.

They began a quiet and uncertain romance in Captain America and the Falcon #6, by writer Christopher Priest and artist Joe Bennett. This occurred right before Wanda turned on the team in Avengers Disassembled, one of the major comics storylines in the history of Scarlet Witch and The Vision.

Quicksilver And Crystal

Quicksilver, Luna, and Crystal play under a waterfall in Marvel comics

Quicksilver would have a less complicated romance with a fellow Avenger than his sister did, but no less odd. In the late 80s, he meets and later marries the Inhuman Crystal, a powerful female Marvel character who controls the elements. The two also have a daughter, Luna, who initially doesn't have any powers. Their relationship is odd mostly because it never really made sense. Pietro is an infamous jerk in the comics, short and impatient, especially with Crystal who only ever seems to be seeking some happiness and peace.

Hank Pym And Tigra

Hank Pym and Tigra kissing.

Hank Pym is famously involved with Janet Van Dyne in the comic books, for good and for bad, but one of his strangest relationships came much later. For a time, he was involved with Tigra, a member of both the main Avengers team and the offshoot West Coast Avengers. It's notably odd because he shrunk Tigra down to the size of a normal cat and kept her in a cage in his lab while the Avengers went on another mission. It was a great example of how awful Hank Pym could be at times.

Iron Man And Wasp

The Wasp has her share of unusual romances, too. One of her earliest relationships was with Tony Stark. The pair had a brief relationship in the 1980s after Janet's marriage to Hank Pym ended. It was odd because she didn't actually know Tony was Iron Man at the time.

They later rekindled their relationship in 2018, with the Fresh Start initiative in Marvel Comics. Tony designed Janet a new Wasp suit, which had some influence on her MCU look, but the relationship didn't last too long.

Jane Foster Thor And Sam Wilson Captain America

Jane Foster Thor and Sam Wilson Captain America kiss in Marvel Comics.

The idea of Captain America and Thor dating would have been odd to some back in the day, but in 2015, it was very cute. Jane Foster was Thor and Sam Wilson was Captain America in the All-New, All-Different era of Marvel. The two had a brief flirtation that really didn't go anywhere, which was the strangest thing about it. The two were very cute together, and it was another case of uncertain identity as no one, not even the reader, knew that Thor was Jane Foster for a long time.

Scarlet Witch And Wonder Man

Scarlet Witch and Wonder Man kiss in Marvel Comics.

One of the strangest romances among the Avengers occurred between Wanda and Wonder Man. It's strange because of his connection to Vision. The Vision was created by Ultron from the brain patterns and memories of Wonder Man, and when Vision lost them and became the White Vision, Wanda was bereft. She began a complicated affair with Wonder Man that would be on and off for years, even after Vision regained a large measure of his former self. It didn't help that Wonder Man originally refused to help recreate the synthezoid.
