One of the main quests in puzzle to the more complex conundrums of later chapters. However, the solutions to the puzzles in Stray, including the Broken Tracker quest, can occasionally be a little hard to figure out.
After meeting up with the helpful NPC Momo again in Stray Chapter Six, he asks the player to speak to Seamus, the son of his missing friend Doc. While Doc has been missing for years, the player can uncover a secret laboratory in Doc’s apartment containing the broken tracker, convincing Seamus to help them track down his father. The catch is that only Elliot of Elliot Programming can fix the tracker, and he’s feeling too chilly to work.
Some may have already come across Elliot while searching for B12 Memory collectibles in the slums, but he won’t have much to say until the player comes to him and shows him the broken tracker. He needs a cloth to warm himself up, and the player needs to figure out where to get it.
Fixing The Broken Tracker In Stray
This is a good test of the player’s local knowledge. Turning right after leaving Elliot Programming’s front door, the player will come across Grandma Clothing, one of the area’s thriving local businesses. Grandma will offer to knit a Poncho for the player kitty, which sounds perfect for keeping Elliot warm. But first, she needs some Electric Cable to knit with. The merchant Azooz in the marketplace down the stairs to the right from Guardian has some cable to trade, but he’ll only take Super Spirit Detergent for it. Unfortunately, locating some detergent in Stray’s vibrant cyberpunk-themed city doesn’t seem particularly easy.
How To Find Super Spirit Detergent In Stray
To get Super Spirit Detergent, the player must head back towards the bar with the neon sign where they met Momo earlier and climb onto the rooftops. From here, they should be able to spot two robots tossing paint cans at each other across the rooftops. The player should interact with the paint-can pitcher, causing the cat to sit by the robot’s legs. A meow prompt will appear, and the player needs to time their meow just right so it distracts the robot, causing a can of paint to fall into the street below. The mess will annoy the owner of the laundry business down below. It’s a rather funny depiction of cats causing mayhem, much like the real-life cats that inspired Stray’s feline protagonist might do. Down on the street, the player will find the laundry owner distracted cleaning up, so the player can sneak inside and grab the Super Spirit Detergent on the table to their left as they walk in.
How To Find Electric Cable In Stray
Once the player has the detergent, it’s a straight shot: return to Azooz in the marketplace to trade for the Electric Cable.
How To Get The Poncho For Elliot
After trading the detergent to Azooz for the Electric Cable, return to Grandma to have her knit the cable into the Poncho and then return to Elliot, poncho in hand (paw?). Have him try it on, and Elliot will find it very much to his liking, prompting him to fix the player’s broken tracker.
Stray is available now on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC.
