The new Game Face feature in Street Fighter 6 gameplay reveal trailer was shown during PlayStation's recent State of Play event, and now another new feature has been revealed by Capcom.
As a follow-up to Street Fighter 5, which released in 2016, Street Fighter 6 will bring the beloved brawler saga into a new era. The game will reportedly feature several different game modes, with each delivering a unique knuckle-busting experience for fans to enjoy. The Fighting Ground mode will be similar to the classic Street Fighter experience, will players choosing a character and facing off in head-to-head scuffles. Meanwhile, the Battle Hub is said to be a unique social space where players can forge rivalries and make friends. Finally, the World Tour single-player campaign will let Street Fighter 6 players explore Metro City as a fully open-world environment and fight to the top of the food chain.
A Twitter post from Street Fighter details the new Game Face feature coming to Street Fighter 6. The fighting game genre's iconic versus screens see the players' characters square up before a match, but Street Fighter 6 will make this moment interactive. By pressing directional buttons during the versus screen, players can make their chosen character assume a variety of different facial expressions. A video example sees Luke and Ryu preparing to face off, with Luke giving a threatening grimace while Ryu looks calm and assured. The Game Face mechanic adds a bit of fun and interaction to a popular fighting game trope.
The recent PlayStation State of Play event revealed a number of Street Fighter 6's different playable characters, which range from franchise staples to exciting newcomers. However, following the event a Street Fighter 6 roster leak apparently revealed every single character included in the series' next entry. This roster includes pop culture icons like Ryu, Chun-Li and Ken, alongside a multitude of brand-new faces like Jamie and Kimberly. In general the Street Fighter 6 roster appears to be extremely colorful, with dynamic characters with unique designs being pulled from different countries around the world.
Street Fighter 6 looks to be pushing the envelope by giving players control of their fighter at every conceivable moment. The World Tour mode will be an open-world adventure through Metro City, and the Game Face feature will let players mock and intimidate their rivals before the match even begins. Those interested in going toe-to-toe in colorful combat should look forward to the launch of Street Fighter 6 next year.
Street Fighter 6 will release in 2023 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
