Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba.Breathing Styles. These breathing techniques allow demon slayers and Hashira to formulate powerful attacks with an unlikely weapon, their breath. By inhaling and exhaling, these heroes unleash their fighting abilities.

No two Breathing Styles are the same because each one-of-a-kind skill fits the character's personality, with different varieties such as water, fire, and lightning. On the other hand, villains benefit from demon powers that make them incredibly strong, perceptive, and capable of capturing innocent humans to feast on. These extraordinary powers make for truly cinematic clashes throughout the show.

15 Gyokko's Unimpressive Fight Doesn't Make Him Any Less Powerful

The Upper Rank 5 Kizuki

Gyokko is the Upper Rank 5 Kizuki, a bizarrely inhuman demon obsessed with disfiguring people into what he considers art. Gyokko, along with Hantengu, leads an assault on the swordsmith village in season 3, the two hoping to deal a critical blow to the Demon Slayers by destroying their source of weaponry once and for all.

Gyokko can teleport between pots to evade attacks, control water, and summon fish-like creatures, the latter of which was used to summon an army of monstrous creatures to destroy the swordsmith village. Gyokko couldn't put up much of a fight against Muichiro after Muichiro unlocked his Demon Slayer Mark, but even with how quickly their fight ended, the creative nature of his powers, combined with his raw power, still leaves him as an incredibly powerful fighter.

14 Muichiro Tokito Had The Potential To Be An Incredible Fighter

The Mist Hashira

Muichiro Tokito is a Demon Slayer who, despite being around Tanjiro's age, is introduced as the Mist Hashira. Initially, a stoic individual with no interest in other people, Muichiro's friendship with Tanjiro helped him open up by confronting his tragic past, and he became much kinder and stronger for it.

Muichiro's Mist Breathing style uses swift movements to confuse his opponents before striking them down, and when combined with the power of his Demon Slayer Mark, Muichiro was strong enough to defeat the Upper Rank 5 Kizuki Gyokko, singlehandedly. Muichiro is still one of the weaker Hashira, however, as emphasized by how quickly he was defeated by Kokushibo, but had he lived long enough to fully tap into his potential, he easily could have become one of the strongest fighters in the series.

13 Hantengu Is One Of The Most Complicated Demons To Deal With

The Upper Rank 4 Kizuki

Hantengu is the Upper Rank 4 Kizuki and the main antagonist of the Swordsmith Village arc. At first glance, Hantengu appeared to be a sniveling and cowardly old man, but there was far more to him than everyone was led to believe, resulting in one of the longest and most complicated fights in the entire series.

Whenever Hantengu would normally be killed, he instead regenerates into one of four split personalities with their own unique abilities, and all four can combine to summon Zohakuten, Hantengu's strongest form who nearly defeated Tanjiro and Mitsuri. The only way to kill Hantengu in Demon Slayer is to destroy his core personality, an incredibly tiny version of himself, but with how powerful everyone else is, it makes him one of the hardest demons among the Upper Rank Kizuki to deal with, by far.

12 Mitsuri Kanroji Is The Demon Slayers' Strongest Female Fighter

The Love Hashira

Mitsuri Kanroji is an energetic and eccentric woman and the Love Hashira of the Demon Slayers. Mitsuri ed the Demon Slayers to find a man who would accept her for her weird hair color and abnormal physical strength, and while she doesn't have much luck in that regard, she's still able to make a family for herself among her peers, regardless.

Mitsuri's Love Breathing style involves overwhelming her opponents with nimble gymnastics and a whip-like sword, and when combined with her Demon Slayer Mark and raw physical power, Mitsuri was strong enough to hold her own against the Upper Rank 4 Kizuki Hantengu. Mitsuri falls behind many other Demon Slayers, something especially apparent in the final arc, but even so, it's hard to see her as anything other than the strongest female character in the series.

The Serpent Hashira Is Bold, Unwaveringly ionate, and Persistent

Upper Moon 5 Gyokko's backstory in Demon Slayer, revealed in the series' official fanbook, revealed that he was twisted even as a human.

Obanai has a Demon Slayer Mark, which is a true testament to his immense power level. He is a talented swordsman, great at sparring, and skilled at using Serpent Breathing. He even went head-to-head with Muzan, unfortunately not surviving the battle, but the fact that he held his own against the strongest demon of all confirms how powerful he is.

10 Giyu Tomioka Is One Of Demon Slayer's Mosst Underrated Fighters

The Water Hashira

Giyu Tomioka is the Water Hashira and the one who put Tanjiro on the path to becoming a Demon Slayer. Giyu spends most of the series doubting his abilities thanks to the death of his friend when he was younger, but Tanjiro helps him regain his confidence, which ended up being a major boon in the final arc of the series.

As the Water Hashira, Giyu knows all the same moves as Tanjiro, but his years of experience lets him use them to a much higher degree than Tanjiro could ever be capable of. That, when combined with his Demon Slayer Mark, resulted in Giyu being strong enough to hold his own against Akaza in the final arc, so despite not being as flashy as other characters, he's still one of the strongest in the story, by far.

9 Kyojuro Rengoku Fights Courageously With Gigantic Bursts of Flame

The Flame Hashira Is Demon Slayer’s Bravest Hero, With the Strength To Match

Kyojuro Rengoku, the Flame Hashira, made his mark on the series as the most courageous individual. Rengoku, unfortunately, died during a fight with the Upper Rank Three demon, Akaza. His efforts were not in vain because he kept the demon from harming humans and inspired the younger demon slayers to keep fighting diligently.

One of his most intimidating abilities is his Flame Breathing, which allows him to blast enemies with mighty bursts of blaze. His bravery carried him very far as a Hashira. No threat was able to scare Rengoku off, as he prioritized protecting others and defeating evil over anything else. He is not only strong physically, but mentally as well.

8 Tanjiro Kamado Is Humble Despite Being One of Anime’s Strongest Heroes

His Hinokami Kagura, Sword Skills, Demon Slayer Mark, and Dedication Make Him Powerful

Demon Slayer's protagonist, Tanjiro Kamado, grew into one of the series' best heroes. He started out as an inexperienced young boy, forced to pursue demon slaying to turn his sister Nezuko human again. However, his dedication to slaying demons is unbreakable and his physical state and repertoire of skills quickly caught up to his incredible mental strength.

While Tanjiro was trained in Water Breathing, he eventually switched to the Hinokami Kagura, a much stronger Breathing Style based on Sun Breathing, the original Breathing Style. Tanjiro also, developed both the Demon Slayer Mark and the Transparent World, and with those abilities and others, Tanjiro eventually became strong enough to defeat Akaza and hold his own against Muzan in the final arc. Tanjiro is far from being the strongest Demon Slayer, but his power can't be overlooked, regardless.

7 Akaza Is an Experienced Martial Artist With Incredible Demon Powers

The Upper Rank Three Managed To Take down Rengoku, the Flame Hashira

Akaza is the Upper Rank Three demon responsible for ending Kyojuro Rengoku's life. He is certainly a terrifying adversary, in the upper ranks of the horrifying Twelve Kizuki group of demons. Even as a mere human, he was a skilled martial artist who could overpower nearly anyone.

After transforming into a demon, his power grew to an astonishing new level, making him able to regenerate. Being able to heal cuts, scrapes, and lost limbs with ease gives him incredible endurance. Coupled with his rapid speed, expertise in martial arts, and Blood Demon Art, Destructive Death, Akaza is among the strongest demons in Demon Slayer.

6 Doma Is a Cult Leader With an Undefeatable Blood Demon Art

His Cryokinesis and Tessenjutsu Helped Him Become the Second Strongest of the Twelve Kizuki

Despite his playful personality, the Upper Rank Two demon, Doma, is a horrifying villain. He is responsible for killing Shinobu's sister and then Shinobu herself, and transforming Ume and Gyutaro into demons. Despite his awful deeds, he is worshiped as the leader of a cult, entitled Eternal Paradise Faith.

Doma's charismatic personality and sense of humor and mischief make him seem harmless, but that is far from the case. He can regenerate almost instantly, seen when Akaza swiped half of his head off, and he healed it immediately. He never gets tired or gives up, and uses Tessenjutsu, a martial arts fighting style. Finally, his Cryokinesis Blood Demon Art allows him to use ice as a weapon during fights, freezing his enemies from the inside out.
