The Boston-based studio behind an multiplayer game set in CDPR was working on a multiplayer game pertaining to one of its IPs.

But it's official: The Molasses Flood, the lead studio behind Project Sirius, has now merged with CDPR according to a pop-up on The Molasses Flood's official website, via a new report from VG247. The message reads, "We want to let you know that on April 1, 2025, The Molasses Flood LLC (“TMF”) merged with CD PROJEKT RED Inc. (“CDPR Inc.”), a company being a part of the CD PROJEKT Group. As a result of the merger TMF, in its former legal state (of a separate legal entity) ceased its operations, while CDPR Inc. assumed the rights and obligations of TMF."

Multiplayer Witcher Is Allegedly Still In The Works

Geralt and Triss from the Witcher 3

As far as we can tell, the Witcher multiplayer game is still in pre-production, despite the merge. Staff at The Molasses Flood will continue their work on Project Sirius as part of the wider CDPR group. Nor will its absorption affect the availability of The Molasses Flood's two previous titles, The Flame in the Flood and Drake Hollow, which will "continue to be published by CD PROJEKT Group," per the announcement on its website.

A stunning cosplay of Ciri from The Witcher franchise has captured the attention of many fans for its great costuming and unique video presentation.

However, Molasses Flood co-founder and former Project Sirius design director/principal architect Damian Isla elected to depart the studio amid the merger with CD Projekt. In a post on LinkedIn (also via VG247) about his departure, Isla makes it apparent that the decision was his, and appears to be totally optimistic about both Project Sirius' future and the merge itself. "To be ultra clear: this is a GOOD AND HEALTHY thing for the studio," he says, going on to call Project Sirius "an amazing game, one for the books."

The Witcher Franchise Has Some Big Projects Ahead

More Than Project Sirius

Besides Project Sirius, there's a lot of Witcher still to come. The likely still a long ways away.

The same can likely be said of Project Sirius; it's had a tumultuous development cycle so far, apparently having been reset and further delayed by Molasses Flood layoffs in 2023. With its principal architect's departure, Project Sirius is likely still a long way off; it could be multiple years before we hear even whisperings of a multiplayer Witcher. If nothing else, fans can take solace in the fact that there are plenty of major releases in The Witcher series coming to hold them over.
