Warning! Spoilers ahead for Suicide Squad #8
The biggest Task Force X's Director Amanda Waller relocating her assets to Earth-3 to save a world that actually wants to be saved, her success ultimately culminated in her death. However, the present Suicide Squad series which has thus far been building towards said future has put Waller's ing in a whole new light, making her death much less definitive.
In DC's Future State: Suicide Squad from writer Robbie Thompson and artist Javier Fernandez, Amanda Waller set out to truly save Earth-3, something she couldn't do for her own Earth. Taking her Suicide Squad with her to defeat the evil Crime Syndicate, Task Force X became the Justice Squad, Earth-3's new protectors led by the clone of Superman Conner Kent. Furthermore, Waller also made sure that Earth-3 couldn't be attacked by any supernatural or alien threats while also completely cutting off the planet from the rest of the Multiverse. However, Waller's success came just after she was shot by Peacemaker whose squad had been sent to Earth-3 to capture or kill her.
While it was assumed that Waller had died at the end of Future State, a new development in Suicide Squad #8 from Robbie Thompson, Eduardo Pansica, and Dexter Soy may suggest otherwise. Sending Task Force X to Hell to collect what Waller needs to protect Earth-3 from the metaphysical, one of her assets known as Culebra died in the effort. However, it wasn't long before she was resurrected by Waller using Lazarus resin, a compound derived from the supernatural healing waters of the Lazarus Pits used by Ra's al Ghul. However, if Waller had access to the resurrecting resin, it's possible she's not as dead as was believed in Future State.
While Waller's death in Future State was a just end for her character as she was finally paying for her various and terrible crimes at the hands of Peacemaker, there's now no reason to suspect that she didn't survive being shot. All she'd need is someone or something to ister the Lazarus resin and she'd be good to go, coming back to life to finally retire and enjoy the world she's made truly safe using any means necessary.
As a result, Waller may never have to pay for what she's done and the countless people she's manipulated and killed to get what she wants. Instead, she now has a means of keeping herself and her most valuable assets alive no matter what (so long as she has a store of the Lazarus resin). While there's still time for this current timeline to diverge from its path towards Future State, it certainly looks as though Waller will soon be headed to Earth-3 once the Suicide Squad gets what she needs to protect from extraterrestrial invasions in the issues to come.
