Rocksteady Studios recently confirmed a Justice League may be fighting the Suicide Squad in Rocksteady’s game.

The Suicide Squad is a team of DC supervillains and has been the source of one already-released theatrical movie, with another film from James Gunn in the works. Villains like the Joker, Enchantress, and Killer Croc have all been of the Suicide Squad over the years, and the team even got shout-outs from Injustice 2. It’s a hot product for DC Comics right now, and the new video game from Rocksteady is looking to cash in on that popularity.

Naturally, since the Suicide Squad is a team of supervillains, it would make perfect sense for them to fight a team of superheroes. The Justice League is the obvious choice here, since it’s DC’s most well-known team of superheroes, and it features some of the most popular characters in comic book history, like Superman, Wonder Woman, and Batman.

Is The Suicide Squad Killing The Justice League?

Adding more to the speculation is the fact that Superman appears on the Suicide Squad poster. The superhero is alone, with swirls of smoke around his glowing red eyes. His shoulders are a bit slumped, like he’s possibly been fighting for hours. A cross-hair is placed over the back of his head and spells out Suicide Squad. Is this Superman in Deadshot’s cross-hairs? That theory certainly seems likely. While the poster has led some fans to theorize the character is actually Bizarro and not Superman, if the Suicide Squad is indeed after Superman, it only stands to reason that the rest of the Justice League will be involved, too. It’s an interesting concept, and one that will likely get fans excited.

Perhaps more importantly, Eurogamer reported earlier this year that Rocksteady Studios had ed the domain name SuicideSquadKillTheJusticeLeague.com. While this could be some sort of elaborate form of fan misdirection, the more obvious answer is that the  Suicide Squad game will likely be tasking players with killing off Justice League characters.

For now, eager fans only have a single Suicide Squad poster to go on. Rocksteady Studios has promised to share more info regarding the  at DC FanDome, which is coming on August 22nd. Hopefully, this new Suicide Squad game is just as exciting as the prospect of the supervillain team taking on the Justice League.
