Actor Adam Beach, along with director David Ayer, teases a cool backstory for Slipknot in Ayer's director's cut of Suicide Squad director's cut exists, and it wouldn't be that hard to complete. Since then, fans have flocked to Ayer's social media to ask him questions about what his cut would entail.
Despite some intense pre-release excitement, Suicide Squad became a critical flop after it hit theaters. Many fans were disappointed with the film's confused tone, as well the way some characters were handled. The character who saw their arc most affected by the studio changes is arguably Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), but other characters struggled to make their marks on the very crowded Suicide Squad. Among those was Slipknot, one of the of the titular team. While Slipknot was introduced alongside everyone else, very little information about him was given, and he was killed early on.
With the conversation around the Ayer Cut growing in intensity, new information has been revealed almost every day. Recently, a fan asked Ayer if there was more scenes in his cut involving Slipknot, and Beach chimed in to say, "There was an opening sequence of how I got caught for the Suicide Squad program that was pretty cool." Ayer also got in on the conversation, though his message was more cryptic: "Crime doesn’t pay." It seems like Slipknot was up to something very dramatic when he was first introduced.
Considering how, in the theatrical cut of Suicide Squad, only a handful of were given real time in the spotlight, it makes sense that Ayer's original version would've included extra material for some of the smaller characters. Ayer has revealed in the case of Diablo (Jay Hernandez).
As of right now, it isn't clear if Ayer's cut of Suicide Squad will actually get released. Ayer has found in directors like James Gunn and Cathy Yan, but until Warner Bros. actually makes a move, nothing will happen. The release of the Snyder Cut suggests it could be possible, but there were also many differences between those two situations. However, it sounds like if Ayer has any say in it, Suicide Squad will get a second life somewhere.
