Although Suits LA season 2 is not happening, as the Suits spinoff has been canceled after one season by NBC. This could come as something of a surprise given the popularity of the original series, but Suits LA has been plagued by problems since the series began back in February 2025.
Suits LA focused on former New York prosecutor Ted Black as he attempted to reinvent himself as an entertainment attorney in LA. Black Lane Law firm was the focus of the series, meaning Suits LA could feel like part of the Suits franchise’s existing universe while still populating the series with new characters, settings, and storylines. Ideally, the show would have felt like a regional variation on the acclaimed original legal drama. Instead, a variety of issues saw the series crash and burn among viewers.
Why Suits LA Was Canceled (According To NBC)
NBC Said Suits LA Failed To Resonate With Audiences
According to a TVLine report, President of Program Planning Strategy for NBC Universal Entertainment Jeff Bader told reporters at a press conference that “Suits (LA) has had a very short run, but it really just has not resonated with the way we thought it would.” It is hard to argue with Bader’s comments since, in concrete , the ratings just weren’t there for Suits LA. The show’s first episode, “Seven Days a Week and Twice on Sunday,” drew in an audience of 2.61 million, while its most recent outing, episode 12, “Angry Sylvester,” earned a paltry 0.98 million.
The ratings of the original series didn’t dip below 1 million until well into season 7, at which point many original cast had moved on.
In comparison, the first episode of Suits earned an audience of 4.64 million in 2011 and the season 1 finale retained that audience to the tune of 3.47 million viewers. The ratings of the original series didn’t dip below 1 million until well into season 7, at which point many original cast had moved on. Bader went on to say “People were speculating why it hasn’t (resonated with viewers)… but it’s just not really showing potential to grow for us in the future, unfortunately.”
Sadly, this is a straightforward business decision that makes sense from the perspective of the network. Suits LA’s cast of new characters weren’t as appealing to viewers as Gabriel Macht’s Harvey and Patrick J Adams’ Michael, and the show never gave viewers a reason to care about Ted Black’s attempts to conquer LA. Most frustratingly, the show’s unusual structure bounced between the present and flashbacks to the past in a way that was clearly meant to build mystery but instead felt frustrating.
Suits LA Started On A Bad Note (And Hasn't Been Able To Recover)
Suits LA Never Recaptured The Tone of the Original Show
Suits LA failed to recapture the easy charm of the original show, and this wasn’t aided by eventual appearances from Harvey and Rick Hoffman’s Louis. If anything, the arrival of these veterans might have made matters worse as they highlighted the vast difference between the original series and its spinoff. Suits LA’s focus on Ted's downbeat backstory meant that, although the origins of the lawyer did eventually turn out to be interesting, many audience had been alienated by the time the show got around to finally revealing them.

While the original Suits had flaws, it managed to win over viewers almost instantly with a famously sharp pilot. Suits LA took long-term viewership for granted with a drip-fed plotline that didn’t work for weekly viewers. If the entire first season had been dropped on streaming at once, viewers could have binge-watched and discovered Ted Black’s backstory in a matter of hours. Instead, Suits LA’s network release schedule meant that the flashbacks and present storylines were too dull for too long, meaning the show swiftly shedded viewers on a weekly basis.
Can Suits LA Move To Peacock From NBC?
Suits LA’s Potential Future At Peacock Seems Dim
The result was a spinoff that had potential and a charming cast but never came together thanks to plodding pacing. Now, sadly, Suits LA season 2 seems unlikely to fix this, since even NBC’s streaming service Peacock is an not a welcome home for the show. Per Bader, “We had that conversation about every show,” referring to the possibility of transferring canceled shows to the streaming service for their next season. Judging by this grim comment, the end is well and truly set in stone for Suits LA.

Suits LA Episode 11 Answers A Major Ted Question (But Makes The Show's Premise More Mind-Boggling)
Suits LA started with a bang, but the aftermath of its twists and turns is still unraveling to varying success in the latter half of the pilot season.
This should not come as a major shock, since Suits LA’s disappointing problems have plagued the entirety of its first season. It is a frustrating situation for fans of the legal drama franchise who were hoping to get more of their favorite series, but it is worth noting that Suits LA’s cancellation is closely linked to its failure to replicate Suits’ original appeal. While it might be sad to see the show end, it would be a stretch to claim that it was close to recreating the atmosphere and style of Suits anytime soon.
What Suits Season 2 Could Have Been About
Suits LA Season 2 Could Have Seen Ted Build Black Lane Law
It is not clear what Suits LA season 2’s story would have centered on, although the revelation of Ted’s backstory means the interminable flashbacks would most likely have come to an end in this outing. This means Suits LA season 2 could have centered on Black Lane Law taking over LA, with Stephen Amell’s character proving himself a force to be reckoned with in Hollywood. Unfortunately, this plot could have provided the thrills viewers wanted from Suits LA.
The new location gave Suits LA a chance to establish itself as a new spin on the familiar theme, meaning the series didn’t necessarily need to rely on character comebacks and existing plots.
Although Harvey’s Suits LA comeback was a welcome surprise, the spinoff didn’t fail because it featured too few callbacks to the original series. On the contrary, the new location gave Suits LA a chance to establish itself as a new spin on the familiar theme, meaning the series didn’t necessarily need to rely on character comebacks and existing plots.
However, this premise assumed that Suits LA would center its new characters and hit the ground running with an interesting case. Instead, the spinoff began in media res in the worst way, bouncing between an inscrutable past and a dreary present without properly explaining either. By the time Ted’s backstory was clear and the present stakes of the story were obvious, Suits LA was already on the way to its season 1 finale, and it was too late to get invested in the Suits spinoff.
