The return of Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht) could allow most anticipated new TV shows of 2025, part of the anticipation behind the spinoff of Suits has to do with the chance to revise some fan-favorite characters. Harvey Specter's return in a limited capacity and all that it entails has audiences both excited and wondering what has occurred offscreen for the original series' main character.

Harvey's episodes in Suits: L.A. can easily remind audiences who loved Suits what made the show so engaging, as Harvey's quick wit and tactics made him a fascinating protagonist to follow. However, Harvey's reappearance can also give his arc in Suits a proper ending, as many parts of that arc were rushed in the final season. One particular aspect that Suits: L.A. needs to give attention to is Harvey's relationship with Donna (Sarah Rafferty), specifically in regards to how married life has been treating them after their rocky start in the original show.

Suits LA Can Show Us What Harvey And Donna Are Like As A Married Couple

Suits: L.A. Can Feature This Both With And Without Rafferty Present

Suits: L.A. can fix Harvey and Donna's story from Suits even if Rafferty is not present, adding more detail to Harvey's character by giving audiences a peak into their marriage. Rafferty has yet to confirm her involvement in the spinoff, but her appearance could allow audiences to witness Harvey and Donna's iconic banter and how it has shifted due to marriage. Suits: L.A. can also highlight more of their tenderness, as the intervening time together may have broken down some of Harvey's worries over the public perception that he struggled with in Suits.

If Rafferty does not appear for a cameo alongside Macht, this could still work by having Harvey be on a phone call or receive a text from Donna during his time on Suits: L.A. By doing so, their marriage can still get its moment to shine, highlighting Harvey's comfort with vulnerability and expanding on their happily ever after. That expansion is largely necessary since Suits did not provide them with enough time to be an established couple after so many years of buildup and false starts.

Harvey And Donna Didn’t Have Enough Time As A Couple In Suits’ Final Seasons

Suits Waited Too Long To Get Them Together

Suits season 9 Donna and Harvey in formal wear standing side by side

During Suits' run, Harvey and Donna had very few moments to be a couple as the series focused more on them getting together, something Suits: L.A. can and should rectify. Though they did end up in a romantic relationship by the end of the series, Harvey and Donna's romance took too long, leaving the show little time for them to settle into being a couple. Their wedding in Suits' final season, as a result, rang hollow as audiences had lost faith that it would happen and the series' plot left moments between the two to be few and far between.

Ultimately, Suits: L.A. needs to use Harvey's cameo as a way to both bridge and conclude its connection to the original show, allowing some of the characters a chance at a much stronger ending.

The spinoff series has a chance to fix this by showcasing their evolution in the intervening years, even if it is just for a few moments. Harvey and Donna's relationship was one of the biggest draws of Suits, so for the new series to feature it during Harvey's appearance would bring audiences in while giving that story a satisfying final note. Ultimately, Suits: L.A. needs to use Harvey's cameo as a way to both bridge and conclude its connection to the original show, allowing some of the characters a chance at a much stronger ending.
