Suits experienced a massive resurgence when added to Netflix's streaming library in 2023. It was the most-streamed TV series of 2023, even though it ended four years prior. Consequently, NBC wanted to bank on Suits' unprecedented success.
New episodes of Suits LA air on Sundays at 9 pm ET on NBC. The spinoff's first season contains 10 episodes (per Forbes).
The network ordered a spinoff in late 2023, which later became Suits LA. Korsh returned as the showrunner, creating a new corner of this fictional universe. Instead of New York City, the newer series takes place in Los Angeles (as its title implies) and centers around a team of lawyers working at the Black Lane Law firm. Stephen Amell leads the cast of Suits LA as Ted Black, a former New York prosecutor and now an entertainment lawyer. Unfortunately, despite being set up for success, the Suits spinoff has only fallen short of expectations following its premiere in February 2025.
Suits LA Started With Disappointing Pilot Ratings, And Has Only Gotten Worse
The Spinoff Has Underperformed
Suits LA didn't kick off with great or even average ratings, and it has only gotten worse as the season continues. According to Variety, 2.6 million viewers tuned in to the NBC legal drama's debut on Sunday, February 23, 2025. Compared to the network's other freshman dramas, Suits LA's premiere ratings rank third, behind Brilliant Minds and The Hunting Party, only beating Grosse Pointe Garden Society. The show received a bit of a boost from streaming, bringing its pilot's total viewership up to 4.7 million after three days on Peacock (per The Hollywood Reporter).
Around one and a half million people watch each episode live, and not even Gabriel Macht's cameo as Harvey Specter in Suits LA episode 4 could reel in significantly higher ratings.
Nevertheless, Suits LA's numbers continue to dwindle. Around one and a half million people watch each episode live, and not even Gabriel Macht's cameo as Harvey Specter in Suits LA episode 4 could reel in significantly higher ratings. As of episode 6, the series has yet to turn this ship around. It's easy to understand why some are concerned for the TV show's future following the end of its first season.

After Suits LA Season 1, Episode 6, I Really Hope One Guest Star Returns In A Bigger Role
Suits LA’s first overarching storyline is over, but I hope that the spinoff show’s best guest star so far eventually returns in another arc.
How Suits LA's Ratings Compare To Suits
The Spinoff Is Falling Short Of The Original Show's Ratings
Whereas Suits LA airs on NBC, one of the five big broadcast TV networks, Suits aired on the USA Network, a smaller cable network. So, one might think that the newer series would be able to pull in a bigger audience. However, that hasn't been the case. Suits season 1 averaged 4.28 million viewers, compared to Suits LA season 1's 1.65 million (as of episode 6). The original legal drama's ratings decreased over time, as many shows do, with season 9 averaging 0.99 million viewers.

It's unfair to balance how Suits ended with how Suits LA began, meaning comparing both series' first seasons is easier. As a result, the spinoff is evidently falling short of the older show's early success. Of course, the TV landscape has greatly changed since 2011, when Suits first premiered. Network TV ratings have decreased immensely since the 2010s, a direct result of the streaming boom. More people use streaming services to watch their favorite TV series nowadays, which s for Suits' resurgence on Netflix.
Will NBC Cancel Suits LA Because Of Its Low Ratings?
Suits LA Still Has A Chance
Despite Suits LA's disappointing performance, it still has a chance to get renewed for season 2. The odds aren't in the legal drama's favor, but it has some positives that could tip the scale in its favor. The spinoff has gotten better since its poorly reviewed pilot, and the episodes will feature a couple of big cameos, which could increase ratings. One of Suits' most memorable villains, David Costabile's Daniel Hardman, is returning, as is original character Louis Litt, played by Rick Hoffman. Perhaps this, plus the spinoff's boost from streaming, will be enough for NBC to renew Suits LA.
