Suits: L.A.’s potential release window may sound disappointing at first, but it is actually good news for Suits’ new spinoff show. Although Suits: L.A. is not the first Suits spinoff, it will do something very different from Pearson by following an all-new set of characters. Suits: L.A. has not been officially picked up for a full series yet, but the level of talent involved in the pilot, including Arrow star Stephen Amell and The Walking Dead star Josh McDermitt, suggests the project will move forward.
The development of a new Suits show set in Los Angeles was first announced in February 2024, less than a year after the legal drama arrived on Netflix. The McDermitt’s Stuart Lane. Between the characters and the location, Suits: L.A. is distancing itself enough from the original show, yet it is still bound to be compared to Suits whenever it premiers.

Suits is still experiencing a massive popularity boost following the arrival of the show on Netflix in mid-2023, which led to a record-breaking, unprecedented streaming performance for a show that ended in 2019. Suits, which is also available on Peacock, continues to find new audiences all over the world thanks to streaming. With millions of people experiencing Suits for the first time, it may be better for the show’s first standalone spinoff not to be released amidst the “Suits resurgence.” Comparisons between Suits: L.A. and Suits will be unavoidable, but a longer gap between the shows might reduce them.
Suits’ Record-Breaking Netflix Success Has Just Happened
The "Suits resurgence" is still happening
It is no coincidence that a new Suits show was greenlight shortly after the legal drama arrived on Netflix. Suits broke The Office’s record to become the most streamed show in a year, with over 57.7 billion minutes streamed in 2023. The Office, which had always been successful but became an even bigger streaming phenomenon during the pandemic, achieved 57.1 billion minutes in 2020. It has been less than a year since the Suits resurgence started, meaning the franchise doesn’t have to be in a hurry to release a new show in 2024.
Of course, Suits: L.A. can benefit a lot from Suits’ current success if it gets picked up for a full series. Both long-time Suits fans and those who discovered the show recently would get to watch a brand new Suits series right after the original show’s popularity boom. Suits is already the perfect promotional campaign from Suits: L.A., even though the spinoff will follow new characters in a completely different setting. That said, Suits: L.A. must be a good series on its own and not just an extension of Suits created solely because of the original show’s success.

Suits L.A. Pilot Adds 3 More To Guest Cast, Including 1970s TV Icon As Himself
The pilot for the Suits L.A. spinoff adds three stars to its guest cast, including a 1970s television icon playing himself as a client.
Suits: L.A. Should Be Judged By Its Own Merits (Not By Suits Standards)
Suits: L.A. is not Suits season 10
Although not much is known about Suits: L.A., it sounds like it could be a great series. Amell has praised the writing on the Suits: L.A.’s pilot, suggesting it recaptured Suits’ sharp writing and wit humor. McDermitt has reportedly been the comedic breakout star of the show, which is also promising news considering Suits was a very funny show. None of the Suits: L.A. character descriptions feel like recreations of the Suits characters, a mistake that sequels tend to make.
Hopefully, Suits: L.A.’s pilot will lead to a worthy succession to Suits.
Although seeing characters like Harvey Specter and Mike Ross back in a Suits revival would have been exciting, an all-original Suits show sounds more promising than a proper reboot. Suits ended on a high note despite all the actors, and bringing the show back would risk tarnishing its legacy. Suits: L.A., on the other hand, can be judged by its own merits, especially if only comes out in 2025. Hopefully, Suits: L.A.’s pilot will lead to a worthy succession to Suits. If it does, it will be interesting to see how Suits: L.A.’s viewership numbers will compare to Suits.

Suits follows Mike Ross (Patrick J. Adams), who, despite never attending law school, is able to use his photographic memory to become a lawyer. The legal drama ran from 2011 to 2019 for a total of nine seasons and also starred Gabriel Macht, Meghan Markle, Sarah Rafferty, and Rick Hoffman.
