Suits LA will have big shoes to fill after the original series became a worldwide hit on streaming in 2023. Suits already had a ionate fanbase during its original run, but not even a spinoff led by the fan-favorite Jessica Pearson was enough to match the success of the 9-season series.
was canceled after just one season, which seemingly showed that viewers were not interested in a Suits spinoff just yet. However, a lot has changed since 2019, namely the fact that Suits is now bigger than ever. While Suits LA has a difficult path ahead of it given how loved the original series is, the new show seems to be making all the right choices that Pearson unfortunately did not.
5 Suits LA Is Aiming To Recapture The Original Show's Tone
Suits LA Will Be Much Closer To Suits Than Pearson Was
Suits creator Aaron Korsh, who also created Pearson and is helming the LA spinoff, itted that the franchise’s first spinoff was too different from the original series instead of tone. To Entertainment Weekly, Korsh talked about how Pearson was not as funny as Suits and did not embrace its potential similarities to the original show. While Korsh pointed out that this was a conscious decision, the showrunner revealed that Suits LA would be closer to the original Suits.
Suits LA will air on Sundays, 9pm EST on NBC.
Based on everything we have seen from Suits LA so far, it’s clear that the new series is trying to recapture the original show’s tone. Suits was a funny show that wasn’t necessarily self-aware but knew how to make the most of its arguably bizarre premise and larger-than-life characters. The intense character interactions and the constant fights for power within the firm were some of Suits’ signature traits that are expected to be brought back in Suits LA.
4 There's More Hunger For Suits After The Original Show's Netflix Success
Suits Is Bigger Than Ever After Landing On Netflix In 2023
Suits LA is a result of Suits’ massive success on Netflix. The original series, which ended in 2019, became the most streamed show of 2023 after dropping on Netflix. Although Suits was successful during its original run, the show has since become a global hit thanks to streaming.

Suits L.A. Is Missing The One Thing That Made Suits Great (But That's Good News)
Suits L.A. may have some similarities to its flagship series, but it also has one major difference, which is actually great news for the spinoff.
In other words, there is no better time to release a new Suits project. Although many would have liked to see Suits season 10 or even a Suits reunion movie, bringing back the franchise through a spinoff instead of a revival is a good decision. Suits had a great series finale, and while five years have ed, it might be too soon to mess with the original show’s ending and its legacy.
3 Suits LA Will Focus On Brand-New Characters
Suits LA Is Starting From Scratch
Gina Torres’ Jessica Pearson was one of Suits’ best characters, and the show was never the same without her. Still, Jessica worked as part of a larger universe of characters, all of whom complement each other. Removing Jessica from the world of Suits and placing her amidst characters we had never seen before was a risky decision that did not pay off.

Harvey Specter’s Return In Suits LA Continues A Controversial Suits Trend That Started After Season 7
Gabriel Macht will reprise his role as Harvey Specter in Suits LA, meaning the spinoff series will continue a divisive franchise trend.
Suits LA, on the other hand, is going for an all-new set of characters. While Gabriel Macht’s Harvey Specter will return for three episodes, the spinoff is about Stephen Amell’s Ted Black and the firm he created with Josh McDermitt’s Stewart Lane. Viewers will have no preconceptions about what to expect from the Suits LA characters, whereas Pearson had to live up to Jessica’s best moments in the original show.
2 Suits LA Is Coming Out Years After Suits Ended
Pearson Came Out Alongside Suits Season 9
Pearson had its backdoor pilot at the end of Suits season 7, which acted not only as a goodbye to the characters played by Patrick J. Adams and Meghan Markle but also as a prelude to Jessica’s spinoff. However, Pearson would only premier in 2019 in the same month Suits’ final season came out.
Jessica was originally supposed to appear in Suits' series finale, but the plans for her cameo were dropped due to scheduling issues.
Pearson released too closely to Suits season 9, meaning that viewers were more focused on the original show’s ending than on the idea of a spinoff. Suits LA, however, is coming over five years after the original series ended. This is just enough time for viewers who watched Suits weekly when it first came out to actually miss the show, yet it is also not too long after Suits became a streaming sensation.
1 Suits LA Will Be A Legal Procedural, Not A Political Drama
Pearson Was About Jessica Navigating The Politics Of Chicago
While we don’t know what the structure of Suits LA will be, we can only assume will follow a somewhat procedural formula like the original show did. With Ted Black and his firm working on several cases in the entertainment world, Suits LA will be a legal procedural like Suits, not a political drama like Pearson. Diving into the political games of a major city like Chicago through the eyes of Jessica was an exciting premise, but Pearson was just too different from what audiences had come to expect from Suits.
Suits LA is expected to have its own identity and will hopefully not be just Suits but set on the West Coast. However, the spinoff’s premise makes it much closer to Suits than to Pearson. Of course, Suits LA will have to deal with a lot of Suits comparisons due to the similarities and even the name. However, if Suits LA lives up to the expectations set up by Suits, the new series can be not only a spinoff but also a spiritual successor to Suits.
