A new report reveals an unexpected standout character from Suits started dominating streaming in 2023, conversations about the idea of reviving the series began immediately. Despite his initial hesitation, franchise creator Aaron Korsh eventually started work on expanding the universe by launching another spinoff. Suits: LA features an all-new cast, led by Stephen Amell's Ted Black, and an ensemble will surround him as they cater to Hollywood in the new show.
Per Deadline, filming for the Suits: LA pilot has already been finished, but it won't be ready until next month. While specific details about the episode are being kept under wraps, the report claims that the consensus on what has been filmed thus far has been positive. Surprisingly, however, The Walking Dead alum Josh McDermitt is named as Suits: LA's comedic breakout star. He plays Stuart Lane, Black's partner. Amell's performance is also praised.
What McDermitt’s Comedic Role Means For Suits: LA
Suits' Humor Was Very Specific.
Korsh would be smarter than to just repeat whatever he did with Suits, knowing full well that it would be detrimental to the potential success of Suits: LA since it would invite more comparison.
Technically, Suits was a legal drama, but that didn't mean it was devoid of humor. Korsh leaned towards sharp and witty banter for this, hence why it was so entertaining to see its characters interact. The back-and-forth between Harvey Specter and Mike Ross was great, but while they were Pearson, Hardman's top lawyers, the rest of the core cast could also engage them in quick verbal sparring. However, another layer of humor for Suits came from Louis Litt, who was usually the butt of the show's many jokes.
Given this, it's curious if Lane's character is partly inspired by Louis, assuming that his brand of comedy is the same as McDermitt's character. Korsh would be smarter than just repeating whatever he did with Suits, knowing full well that it would be detrimental to the potential success of Suits: LA since it would invite more comparison. Considering this, it's unlikely that Lane will be a second coming of Litt. Still, it isn't exactly bad to use some tried and tested storytelling tricks from the original show.

All 6 Suits LA Characters Revealed So Far (& Who Plays Them)
Suits LA will be the second spin-off of Suits, with a brand new cast and location set to expand the world established in the original series.
It's uncertain if original characters like Harvey and Mike will appear in Suits: LA. Both Gabriel Macht and Patrick J. Adams expressed their desire to reprise their respective characters. However, there's also interest in seeing Rick Hoffman again as the perpetually entertaining Louis and seeing if he has grown since taking over the New York law firm.
Suits: LA is expected to air on NBC during the 2024-2025 TV season.
