E3 2022 officially canceled, it falls on other livestream events like the Summer Games Fest to provide an outlet for publishers to show off their releases with exciting trailers and interviews - and June’s festivities have already kicked off thanks to last week’s Sony State Of Play.

However, while fans were expecting big developments like God Of War Ragnarök’s release date or a reveal trailer for Final Fantasy Remake Part 2 during Thursday’s State Of Play event, it largely consisted of smaller announcements like VR for last year's Resident Evil: Village and PC ports of Insomniac’s Marvel’s Spider-Man games. Many viewers who tuned into the Sony State Of Play event were disappointed by the lack of earth-shattering revelations, but hopes remain high that the rest of this year's Summer Games Fest livestream showcases will be packed with major trailers and game announcements.

According to Summer Game Fest architect Geoff Keighley, fans looking forward to this Thursday’s inaugural Summer Games Fest 2022 livestream may need to tone down their expectations. Keighley recently spoke about the Summer Game Fest event in a Twitter Spaces audio session earlier this weekend (as transcribed by Thursday’s Summer Game Fest event are “crazy,” and that this week’s show won’t be as big and bombastic as the annual Game Awards events held at the end of every year.

Summer Game Fest will return in 2022

However, Summer Game Fest won't be devoid of big highlights, as Geoff Keighley also teased gameplay footage for The Callisto Protocol and Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 on top of trailers for Gotham Knights and Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course. Hollywood megastar Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will also make an appearance following his turn as The Foundation in Fortnite’s Collision event last week. Lastly, Keighley promised that Thursday’s Summer Game Fest will feature titles for the Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch, but he also notes that Microsoft will likely keep its big reveals for its own in-house Xbox Showcase livestream on Sunday.

This week’s Summer Game Fest livestream looks to be an exciting showcase for video games large and small, but fans hoping to see some shocking developments or rumor confirmations will likely be disappointed. Those hoping to tune in will be able to check out the Summer Game Fest on June 9 at 11 AM Pacific Time or 2 PM Eastern, and Geoff Keighley will be on hand to host live on stage.
