Screenshots of a cut creepy stage from Mario 64 has unintentional horror elements, but it could have been much worse. The Forest of Illusion Twitter page (in collaboration with Render Archive and Nintoid) has ed the 1996 Nintendo Company Report. This document contains screenshots of a creepy cut Mario 64 stage that involved more Mr. I enemies. The cut level could have been part of an early iteration of Big Boo's Haunt, or perhaps it was a stage that was used to test different elements of the game.

Mario 64 Has A Cut Stage With Floating Eyeballs

The cut Mario 64 stage appears to be a ghost level. What's especially creepy about the stage is the presence of multiple Mr. Is, giving the room a surreal design. The cut stage was not present in the versions of Mario 64 in the Nintendo Gigaleak, suggesting it was removed early on in the game's development. On the surface, it might seem as if this is an underwater stage, as bubbles can be seen in the screenshots, but Mr. Is can fire bubbles in the final version of the game, and it seems as if one is being fired at Mario.

There have been many Nintendo leaks over the past few years, yet there are still games and builds that have eluded fans. The most famous is EarthBound 64, but the Spaceworld 95 build of Mario 64 is another important piece of lost gaming media. If the Spaceworld 95 version of Mario 64 ever makes its way into the hands of the public, then the creepy eyeball stage might be hidden inside of it. Luigi has been found in Mario 64 beta builds after years of urban legends, so maybe the Spaceworld 95 version of Super Mario 64 will also be found someday.
