box office success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie has made a sequel to Nintendo and Illumination's first collaboration almost inevitable, meaning that more elements from the Mario universe will be hitting the big screen once again. Although not much is known about the highly-anticipated sequel yet, here are 15 new power-ups that can appear in The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2.
Based on Nintendo's iconic video game franchise, The Super Mario Bros. Movie finally brings the beloved platforming plumber to the big screen, with the film garnering tons of acclaim from fans. The Super Mario Bros. Movie is truly a love letter to the games, with it featuring all kinds of Mario Easter eggs and references that dig pretty deep. Many of these callbacks come in the form of power-ups, with the film featuring the Super Mushroom, Fire Flowers, the Super Bell, the Super Leaf, and more. While there are already plenty of power-ups, the first movie barely scratches the surface of what could come in the sequel.
15 Mega Mushroom
The Super Mario Bros. Movie already features the Super Mushroom and the Mini Mushroom, so The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2 should go one step further and introduce the Mega Mushroom. This massive orange and red mushroom grows its into a giant, allowing them to easily tear through enemies without breaking a sweat. A titan-sized Mario and Bowser fight would be a sight to behold, and it can become a reality with the Mega Mushroom.
14 Bee Mushroom
Super Mario Galaxy's most iconic power-up, the Bee Mushroom, should also appear in The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2. The Bee Mushroom gives its a bee suit, equipping Mario or Luigi with the ability to fly and climb on walls. There has been speculation that Illumination's sequel could heavily borrow from Super Mario Galaxy, making the Bee Mushroom an even more perfect match.
13 Rock Mushroom
The Rock Mushroom is an item first introduced in Super Mario Galaxy 2, and it's the perfect candidate for The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2. The item allows its to turn into a massive boulder, rolling across rough terrain quickly and easily. Featuring the Rock Mushroom in The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2 would be perfect for the item, as it was originally introduced in a sequel.
12 Boo Mushroom
Continuing with power-ups from Super Mario Galaxy, The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2 should also feature the Boo Mushroom. The Boo Mushroom allows its to turn into a Boo, the cute ghost enemies from the Mario games. Having the powers of flight and invisibility are always useful, and the Boo Mushroom could make something like a Luigi's Mansion-inspired section even more fun.
11 Cloud Flower
One of the video games' many elemental flower power-ups, the Cloud Flower was first introduced in Super Mario Galaxy 2. The item gives Mario a fashionable white and red suit as well as the power to generate clouds. These clouds can act as platforms that Mario can jump on, allowing for an even more dynamic world design in The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2.
10 Double Cherry
Super Mario 3D World's Double Cherry is one of the franchise's newer power-ups, but it's a fun one. The Double Cherry creates an identical clone of its , something that could allow for some fun fight scenes in the film sequel. The effects of the Double Cherry actually stack, meaning that Mario, Luigi, Peach, or Toad could have an endless number of duplicates in The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2.
9 Penguin Suit
New Super Mario Bros. Wii's Penguin Suit is a weird power-up, but it's super fun. The suit gives its wearer the powers of a penguin, meaning that they can slide on ice while laying on their bellies. Although it probably isn't the power-up with the most practical uses, it would allow for some visually stunning sequences in The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2.
8 Frog Suit
Super Mario Bros. 3's Frog Suit is an oldie but a goodie. The Frog Suit gives its wearer some extra jumping power as well as enhanced movement in the water. Despite the power-up being around for decades, it isn't used that often, and The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2 should give it some love.
7 Blue Shell
Although the Spiny Shell (which has been nicknamed the Blue Shell by fans) appears in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, there is an official power-up known as the Blue Shell. When Mario or Luigi wears the Blue Shell in New Super Mario Bros., it allows them to climb inside the shell and dash around. An item like this could allow Mario and Luigi to give Bowser's forces a taste of their own medicine.
6 Cape Feather
Super Mario World's Cape Feather is an incredibly prominent item that really should have appeared in the first film. The item gives its a yellow cape that allows them to glide as well as perform spin attacks. Due to the item's iconic status, the Cape Feather needs to make its debut in The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2.
