Rainbow Road is featured in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and it is a far greater challenge than in the Mario Kart games. In The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Mario (Chris Pratt) and Luigi (Charlie Day) are trying to get their plumbing business up and running when they suddenly find themselves whisked away to the Mushroom Kingdom. After Luigi is kidnapped by the underlings of Bowser (Jack Black), Mario and Princess Peach (Anya Tylor-Joy) forces to save Luigi and stop Bowser's plot to conquer the Mushroom Kingdom.
Despite receiving mixed reviews, The Super Mario Bros. Movie is a hit already and seems poised to become one of 2023's biggest commercial successes. The computer-animated movie brings the vast world of the Mushroom Kingdom to life, including a high-speed chase on the Rainbow Road. However, The Super Mario Bros. Movie raises the stakes and the difficulty of navigating the Rainbow Road considerably from the notorious challenge it represents in the Mario Kart racing games.
Super Mario Bros Movie Gives Rainbow Road Way More Obstacles
While Rainbow Road is full of obstacles to dodge and overcome in Mario Kart, The Super Mario Bros. Movie includes a far greater quantity of obstacles that make just crossing Rainbow Road an even bigger challenge. The movie also consists of a more significant amount of secondary roads for Mario and the other drivers in the chase to fall onto while keeping the secret road from Mario Kart. The movie also makes the stakes considerably direr than is usually the case for Mario's treks across Rainbow Road.
With Mario, Peach, and their allies Toad (Keegan Michael-Key) and Donkey Kong (Seth Rogen) trying to lead an assault on Peach's would-be suitor Bowser, the villain's army does not simply give chase but destroys part of the bridge to stop them. Unfortunately, this also causes Mario and Donkey Kong to fall into the ocean below and be swallowed by a Maw-Ray. In every aspect, Rainbow Road is by far the most difficult it has ever been in The Super Mario Bros. Movie. However, it also opens the door for another character to debut in The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2.
Super Mario Bros 2 Has The Perfect Track To Introduce A New Character
While Rainbow Road is undoubtedly a challenge in the Mario Kart games, the Gold Mine is just as difficult, which makes it perfect for incorporating into The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2. Doing so would give Wario the perfect chance to make his big-screen debut. Created as a villainous doppelganger of Mario, Wario has become the headlining character of the Wario video game franchise. After Bowser's attempt to conquer the Mushroom Kingdom, Wario could be the perfect antagonist for The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2, and he could bring his famed Gold Mine level with him as a new challenge for Mario and his friends.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie's Disney-level success makes a sequel all but a foregone conclusion, while its use of the Rainbow Road has demonstrates that the most challenging levels of the Mario games can not only be used but even augmented on the big screen. That also sets up the introduction of the Gold Mine as a challenge to outdo Rainbow Road in The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2, especially with Wario himself being a part of it.
