Jimmy Olsen is one of the more endearing characters in the Superman mythos. Fans are used to seeing him as a fresh, young photographer eager to get a scoop. When The CW's Supergirl aired in 2015, audiences were introduced to an older, veteran Jimmy Olsen who was both smart and charming.
Jimmy would eventually become tired of sitting on the sideline. With the help of his "brother," Winn Schott, Jimmy Olsen becomes the state-of-the-art armor, Guardian patrols the streets of National City, routing out crime where it can be found. With the Arrowverse expanded as much as it has, fans are buzzing with what's next for Jimmy Olsen.
Guardian Should Continue
There's been a noticeable lull in Guardian's activity ever since the Children of Liberty Crisis in season 4. Having almost endorsed and blown up a monument, Jimmy Olson has done very little in the way of Guardianship.
His inclusion gave another human dynamic to the show. For fans who couldn't empathize with someone with superpowers or an agent for the government, Guardian offered viewers the chance to fight against evil in a way that was relatable and at the same time fun. Jimmy Olsen was one of the people. Adding more Guardian to the show can only make things better.
Guardian Should Have A Bigger Role
Guardian has been more or less relegated to mopping up low-level crime in National City. This is particularly bothersome considering he started by helping Supergirl take down Parasite. Guardian has already proven he can handle larger threats, and him being front and center in the middle of a large crisis is something fans want to see.
He may not have superpowers, but he's resourceful, intelligent, and adaptable. He was able to work on the fly during the Daxemite invasion, using lead dust to level the playing field à la Batman.
A Standalone Show
Guardian has the potential to pick up and go to a different city. Granted, some allure is removed by the fact that everyone knows who he is. Nevertheless, the landscape is ripe for Guardian to begin patroling a different landscape, and with this patroling, have his own show.
It isn't often that original characters are created away from the source material and work. Yes, there are different iterations of Guardian within the DC lore, but this feels like an entirely different character. He's dark, edgy, and fun to watch. All he's missing is a tech-savvy nerd to help him on his journey.
Team-Up With Spartan
Arrow aired its last episode January 28, 2020. The final season saw the death of Oliver Queen who left behind a slew of fellow heroes to continue the fight against evil. This leaves a wide array of possibilities for different heroes to cross paths. Spartan is very similar to Guardian. He's a human with a drive to take down bad guys.
Both characters rely on their honed physique and gadgets to fight villainy. A team-up between the two would be particularly intriguing in light of arms and Guardian's antigun policy.
Team-Up With Batman
Fans of the Arrowverse have not been given a real glimpse of Batman. There have been references to Bruce Wayne, nods to his gadgets, and mentions of his relationship with Superman. His establishment in the Arrwoverse was solidified with Batwoman giving the narrative a prime situation to let Guardian and Batman meet.
The contrast between the two would be amazing to see. Guardian with his more positive attitude, not wanting to scare the public, and Batman being, well, Batman. After all, Guardian could stand to learn a thing or two by a battle-hardened veteran.
Team-Up With Superman
With Guardian and Superman having such a close relationship, it is only natural the two work together to take down a common enemy. The episode would work best if it was less about their super alter-egos and more about how they can tackle something as normal people.
Both are journalists at the top of their game. Fans will love for the two to investigate a crime culminating in both of them having to don their costumes and take down a superpowered bad guy. With Superman getting his own show, the two can easily team-up.
A Fight With Superman
It has already been established in the Arrowverse that Kryptonians are susceptible to different forms of kryptonite, specifically red and silver. The red kryptonite made Supergirl evil and the silver caused Superman to hallucinate.
Either of these makes for a prime opportunity to show what Guardian is made of, raising the emotional stakes to epic proportions. It's one thing to fight superpowered villains with Superman by your side. It's another to fight against a superpowered villain alone, especially when that villain is your best friend.
Winn Schott Returns
Winn has already returned in the Arrowverse. This means he could possibly return again. His relationship with Guardian is important due to the fact that he made Guardian's suit.
The fun part is Winn can bring back future tech to help advance Guardian's abilities. There isn't a problem with disrupting time, either. Considering Winn has already traveled into the future where his technology was already being utilized, he can easily come back and give some major upgrades to Guardian's antiquated arsenal. Perhaps a better shield?
Guardian Travels To The Future
If Winn is able to come back then he can bring people forward. Not only can fans finally see what the future looks like, but Guardian can find himself in a brand new world that he has to learn to navigate. As it stands, Winn is the only human Legionnaire.
Having Jimmy travel to the future with Winn is an easy way to show more diversity within the Legion of Superheroes. It also offers the CW an opportunity to continue to expand on the Arrowverse. This isn't the only avenue into the future, but with Supergirl ending, it may be one of the few ways we get a continuous glimpse into the Legions world.
Dark Night Of The Soul
The defining moment for a hero is not when he or she decides to fight, but what they do when they've been beaten to the ground. Jimmy Olsen has made his stance on killing and firearms clear. This opens audiences to the possibility that Guardian may have to betray one of his rules.
The emotional drama that this builds is palpable, to say the least, especially when we consider Jimmy's dad was killed in the line of duty. This isn't an unheard-of idea. Man of Steel generated a great deal of controversy because of its climax. Guardian can face a similar situation.
