2024's superhero movies should win many awards.

The Razzie Awards have revealed that Joker: Folie à Deux, Madame Web, and Kraven the Hunter combined for 16 nominations at the Razzies, including Worst Picture, Actor, and Actress. 2024 was a complicated year for superhero films, with all three of those releases struggling at the box office and with critics.

While it is no surprise that Joker: Folie à Deux has so many nominations, Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix being nominated for the worst acting performances at the Razzies is still confusing. Marvel and DC better hope the Superman do not suffer the same fate. Check out all the superhero Razzie Awards nominations below:

What The Superhero Movie Razzie Awards Nominations Mean

2024 Was A Difficult Year For Sony And DC

The 2025 Razzie Awards nominations are a clear showcase of what did and did not work for last year's superhero films. Out of all the theatrical releases in the genre, only Marvel Studios' Deadpool & Wolverine was not nominated for a single award. The MCU movie has become the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time, also ending its global box office run with $1.3 billion. As for the 2024 superhero movies nominated at the Razzies, all of them faced backlash from critics and audiences alike, though some nominations are surprising.

Between new MCU/DCU movies & series, the start of filming on anticipated projects, casting news, and more, 2025 will be a major year for superheroes.

For instance, while Joker: Folie à Deux getting nominations for Worst Picture, Director, and Screenplay was expected, as that is how the Razzies work, Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga turned in good performances in the DC film, making their nominations more confusing. That becomes especially clear when compared to Madame Web and Kraven the Hunter, which had more criticized performances. The failure of most 2024 superhero movies should sound an alarm for Sony and DC, while Marvel is not walking on thin ice right now. Sony's Spider-Man Universe ended as a result of its 2024 films, so changes are happening.

Our Take On The Superhero Movie Razzie Awards Nominations

Joker in a police car in Joker Folie à Deux

Aside from a couple of nominations, I was not surprised by the ones 2024's superhero movies received. After all, I was not a fan of any of the three movies nominated. They all had their fair share of problems, from directing to acting to story to VFX and more. Still, it is sad to see that 2024 was a year when no superhero movie really worked aside from Deadpool & Wolverine. Thankfully, 2025 has more exciting releases ahead, and I believe Marvel and DC will have more success than Joker: Folie à Deux, Madame Web, and Kraven the Hunter.
