Arrowverse star Tyler Hoechlin reacts to Clark Kent's shocking Superman & Lois season 4, episode 10, which brought perhaps the most emotionally charged ending to any of the DC TV shows during Greg Berlanti's era on The CW. However, as one live-action Man of Steel has finished his journey, another one is about to begin, this time on the big-screen.

ScreenRant recently caught up with Hoechlin at the Saturn Awards, where the Arrowverse alum opened up about the conclusion to Superman & Lois, as the show finished its run on The CW back in December 2024. When asked what his reaction was to learn about Clark's ultimate fate in the Superman & Lois series finale, Hoechlin stressed that it was quite the surprise, while also chatting about David Corenswet taking on the role of the DC icon this summer with the new Superman movie, as he shared the following:

Tyler Hoechlin: I don't know if I can say this. Ballsy! It was ballsy. I think we did a brilliant job with it. It was funny, when I first heard it, I was all in on it. Then, as we started shooting it, I started going back and forth on it. It was getting very real. But at the end, I think they did such a beautiful job with it. The writers did an incredible job; Greg Smith did an incredible job directing it. I thought it was nice, especially after the possibility that the cliffhanger in season 3 was going to be our ending. I'm very happy that we got to put a nice bow on it and really tell the whole story. It was so special.

ScreenRant: I've got to talk about James Gun's Superman. Are you excited for it? What are you hoping to see?

Tyler Hoechlin: I'm excited because, in a weird way, I've always [been] looking forward to the experience I was going to have with this character. It originally was going to be two episodes that somehow turned into four, and then seven, and then eight years. I've always been excited about whenever that day comes to the baton, and so I'm so looking forward to see what they're going to do with it. I think they're great. I'm [a] huge, huge Guardians [of the Galaxy] fan, so I can't wait to see what James has done with it. David [Corenswet] sent me a really nice note before they started shooting. He's a very, very classy guy, so I wish him and Rachel and Nick and everybody there the best. And for the fans too! I just hope it's the best movie of the year."

What Tyler Hoechlin's Superman Comments Mean

Hoechlin's reaction to the Superman & Lois ending makes a lot of sense, as the DC TV drama did something that no other Superman adaptation has done before, which was bring a full conclusion to the hero. While most Superman movies and TV shows given Clark some ending in one way or another, Superman & Lois took it a step further by actually bringing his life full circle, resulting in the Man of Steel's ing away after a long life. The same goes for Lois Lane, as Elizabeth Tulloch's version died after her cancer came back in the finale's flash-forward.

In regards to Hoechlin's view on Superman in James Gunn's DC Universe, while it's sad that Superman & Lois had to come to an end after only four seasons, this is an IP that will always continue to get reinvented one after another. Hearing Hoechlin's excitement for Corenswet's take on Superman and where they are going with him in Gunn's DCU franchise shows that he is thrilled for another actor to get to explore the beloved DC icon. In the end, while some believe Superman & Lois ended too soon, Hoechlin still got to play Superman for nearly a decade.
