DC is killing off a major hero team in its official lore, and Darkseid's terrifying new army.
In new solicit information for Superman #29, fans learn that the Legion of Super-Heroes are no more. The gigantic superhero team are from the 31st Century and are lifelong allies of the Man of Steel. Dan Mora's art shows Superman kneeling heartbroken at a gravestone for the team.

In 2024, DC introduced the Absolute Universe - an entire reality warped by Darkseid's evil. While ongoing series are following the lives of Batman, Wonder Woman and more in this new timeline, DC's heroes also have to contend with Darkseid's Legion - a corrupted version of the Legion of Super-Heroes, forged in a world where evil always wins. Up against dozens of powerhouse heroes, Superman needs the original Legion to help beat back Darkseid's version, especially since the villain is planning a lethal invasion of DC's main universe.
The Legion have always been there for Superman, traveling back in time to recruit him as a teen because they couldn't resist bringing such an iconic hero into their ranks. Superman's son Jon later ed the Legion and struck up a romance with Saturn Girl. Even before the Justice League, the Legion of Super-Heroes were Superman's closest allies, so it makes sense that their apparent destruction is hitting him so hard.
With heroes who control magnetism and electricity, who can split into three or grow to a gigantic size, and the smartest man in DC continuity, the Legion of Super-Heroes have often represented what superheroism can become in a world where heroes like Superman truly change the world for the better. Now, Superman is left kneeling at their grave as Darkseid unleashes their dark reflection - this is as bad as things have ever been for the Legion of Super-Heroes.
