A new job listing on the official website for announcement of Gotham Knights, a job posting for a Senior Game Designer at WB Games Montréal surfaced on the web, specifically noting that new hires would help develop a third-person open-world title based on a new AAA IP.

This, naturally, reinvigorated speculation about a long-rumored Superman game, though said rumors previously, and erroneously, attached Rocksteady Studios to the project. Skeptics brushed off the notion, however, due in large part to the ment's explicit mention of a new intellectual property. Yet, those hopeful for a Man of Steel-starring adventure quickly pointed out that Gotham Knights counts as an original IP, given its lack of a connection to established canon such as the Batman: Arkham titles. Once again, Superman fans should prepare themselves for another onslaught of ittedly unsubstantiated claims regarding the beloved hero.

Though WB Games Montréal remains hard at work on Gotham Knights, an online ad (via ResetEra) shows the studio's interest in hiring a 3C Game Designer who will help lead production on an unnamed, "third-person open-world action game." The alleged Superman connection enters the scene because of a few Twitter posts from insider James Sigfield, who previously outed cursory details about Gotham Knights ahead of its DC FanDome debut. One of Sigfield's tweets features a screenshot of the WB Games Montréal Instagram page, which specifically says the studio develops "DC Comics-focused AAA titles." The insider has since shared additional posts all referencing Superman, yet this seems mere speculation on Sigfield's part, considering interactions with other s include him guessing at what the studio may have up its sleeve based on a process of elimination.

As always, speculation, especially that of the unsubstantiated variety, should be taken with a pinch of salt. Superman game rumors have circulated for years; unfortunately, they hardly boasted even a modicum of evidence to suggest such a project would see the light of day. Whether or not that will change in the near future remains a mystery.

Though the Last Son of Krypton featured in many a game throughout the last decade and change, he hasn't starred in a standalone title since 2006's Superman Returns adaptation. Who knows how much longer the 15-year drought will persist?
