Godzilla Won His First Fight With Superman

Supeman Defeated by Godzilla DC

The Justice League's current problems are all thanks to the Legion of Doom. Tired of losing to the DC Univese's heroes, the Legion broke into the Fortress of Solitude to steal powerful relics. However, during the escapade, the Toyman grabbed the Dreamstone and accidentally teleported the Legion to the MonsterVerse, a world populated by iconic kaiju such as Kong. Despite his comrades feeling otherwise, Toyman saw potential in the giant beasts and figured they'd be the perfect tools to crush the Legion's enemies. Using the Dreamstone once more, Toyman sent the monsters to the DCU to attack the Justice League.

Seeing Godzilla eke out a win may be a shock to some. After all, Superman has dozens, if not hundreds of examples of his might, from pulling planets out of orbit to holding a black hole in his hand. But Godzilla is no slouch as the MonsterVerse incarnation of Godzilla alone has taken down apocalyptic-level threats such as Rodan and King Ghidorah. Unfortunately for Superman, the thing that gives Godzilla an edge is Clark's humanity. Had Billy not been in the situation, Superman could have avoided the blast and potentially won the fight. But because of Clark's comion for others, he took the damage Godzilla doled out and lost his bout with the Titan.

Superman's Humanity Nearly Cost Him His Life

Superman and Godzilla Cover DC

While Godzilla and Superman appear to be equally matched here, the former has one advantage the latter does not: While Godzilla has allied himself with humanity before, doesn't care about anything that gets in the way of his fighting. Superman, on the other hand, is a protector first and foremost and is willing to do what he must to save people, even give up his life. And that mentality can't win against Godzilla, who is willing to destroy anything in his path to defeat his enemy. In a scenario where no humans were in danger, maybe the two's fight would have shaken out differently. But as long as people are in danger, Superman is always going to be at a disadvantage to Godzilla.
