He may be DC Universe. While being pursued by a telepathic assassin, Jimmy realized he had a secret superpower thanks, in part, to his bizarre history.
As the Daily Planet's most ambitious staffer, Jimmy has seen some action thanks, in part, to his best buddy Superman's never-ending mission to protect Metropolis. Always on the lookout for a hot new story, Jimmy has shown a tendency to stick his nose in where it doesn't belong, often getting him into trouble. Even worse, Jimmy Olsen would develop powers that tended to make bad situations worse. Even though his more "extreme" adventures were generally confined to the Silver Age, they've remained a large part of his history. So unfortunately for the ace reporter, Olsen's never been able to live down his excursions as Giant Turtle Man or Elastic Lad. But all those silly misadventures paid off in an amazing way that changed Jimmy Olsen forever.
In Superman's Pal, Jimmy Olsen Special #1 by James Robinson, Leon Carvalho, Steve Scott, and Jesús Merino, Jimmy is following up on a lead he’d discovered after a recent battle involving Superman and Supergirl. His investigation makes him the target of a killer-for-hire known as Codename: Assassin. Though the killer is one of the most proficient in his field, Jimmy manages to give him the slip. After doing more digging into a sprawling conspiracy, Jimmy discovers Codename: Assassin is actually a telepath who can easily track and dispatch his victims via his mind-reading. Unfortunately, Olsen's continued sleuthing puts him in the line of his pursuer, but once again, Jimmy manages to keep himself safe. Olsen reasons he has a form of telepathic immunity thanks to the many changes he's experienced over the years.
The new take on Jimmy Olsen is a pretty big change to his character. While he may have a reputation for getting into trouble and requiring Superman to bail him out, recent years have portrayed him as wry and able to outthink his enemies. But there was always going to be a time when Jimmy would face someone who was more lethal than Jimmy was clever. While Jimmy's immunity to telepaths may seem a bit too convenient, it's not that out of the ordinary considering his history.
As one of Superman's closest allies, Jimmy has seen some pretty weird things happen in the city of Metropolis, and he's usually right there trying to get a picture of it. Jimmy's been transformed into a Doomsday, a Kryptonian, and even a genie. While he always goes back to normal, such stresses on his body were bound to leave some kind of mark on him. Telepathic immunity isn't just one of the safe side effects of his altered forms, but one of the most beneficial. A power like that can make Jimmy useful, at least in situations involving mind-readers. DC's Jimmy Olsen might not use his power much, but he’d certainly use it to help his buddy Superman.
