Summary

  • James Gunn casts doubt on the appearance of Milly Alcock's Supergirl in Superman: Legacy.
  • This could be a strategic move to throw off fans, as filmmakers and actors often do with superhero projects.
  • Introducing both David Corenswet's Superman and Alcock's Supergirl in the same movie could be the start of Supergirl having a crucial role in the DCU.

James Gunn has addressed the reports that Supergirl will appear in Gunn's Superman: Legacy before going on to lead Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. While that would make sense given the timing of Alcok's casting, Gunn has now talked about Supergirl's possible role in Superman: Legacy, and the situation got a new chapter.

On Threads, Gunn cast doubt on Alcock's Supergirl making her DCU debut in Superman: Legacy.

On Threads, James Gunn tells a fan he never said Milly Alcock's Supergirl was in Superman: Legacy

When asked by a fan how much screen time Alcock's DCU Supergirl would have on Superman: Legacy, Gunn responded, "I never even said she was in the movie." While the director's words could mean that Supergirl will not appear in the movie, Gunn does not directly deny the claim. This could be a smart way of throwing off fans, which those working on superhero projects often do.

James Gunn has been very active on social media as DC Studios' co-CEO, and he has debunked several major DCU rumors about Superman, Batman, and more.

Why Milly Alcock’s Supergirl Appearing In Superman: Legacy Would Make Sense

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is based on a comic book series of the same name. In that story, Supergirl starts already having saved Earth countless times and interacted with other DC heroes, with the character missing Krypton and feeling like she does not quite belong in her new home. Alcock's Supergirl appearing in Superman: Legacy could help set up her solo movie.

Superman: Legacy is set to include David Corenswet's Man of Steel and at least four other DCU heroes. Supergirl could team up with Superman and the other heroes, showing how she feels around them before going solo for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Gunn also previously teased Krypto's DCU debut in Superman: Legacy. The super dog plays a key role in the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comics, so having Kara Zor-El appear in the Superman reboot and establish her bond with Krypto would be perfect.

In the DCEU, Supergirl only showed up for one movie. Sasha Calle played a multiverse version of Supergirl that debuted and died in The Flash, never interacting with Henry Cavill's Superman. By introducing both Corenswet's Superman and Alcock's Supergirl in the same movie, Gunn would show that the DCU will do right by the Girl of Steel and make her a key part of the universe alongside her more famous cousin, starting with Superman: Legacy.
