Warning: The following contains SPOILERS for Superman & Lois' season 2 finale.
The triumphant finale of Jack Kirby's New Gods into the Arrowverse.
Describing Superman & Lois season 2 as unpredictable would be an understatement. The 15-episode storyline contained multiple fake-outs and deep cuts into the considerable lore contained within the classic Superman comics that inspired the show. The best example of this came early in the season with the apparent arrival of Doomsday, only to reveal the mysterious figure that emerged from the mines under Smallville as the Bizarro Superman. Yet even this was a twist, with the Bizarro Superman unveiled as a hero seeking to save his world and the world of Superman & Lois from the season's true main villain, cult leader Ally Allston, who transformed herself into a parasitic being after merging with her Bizarro doppelganger.
With the help of his family and friends, Superman was able to avert Allston's plan to merge Bizarro World with his own Earth, which was also confirmed to not be the Earth-Prime that houses most of the other Arrowverse superhero series. This explained why Superman & Lois was the only CW superhero show that did not crossover with Supergirl. This was perhaps the most stunning news to come out of Superman & Lois season 2, episode 15, "Waiting for Superman," but it was not the only shocking occurrence. These developments all leave room for plenty of exciting story progression in Superman & Lois season 3. Here's everything that's currently known about Superman & Lois season 3.
Superman & Lois Season 3 Story Details & Setup
The biggest story hook for Superman & Lois season 3 came in a brief scene in which John Henry Irons (Wolé Parks) was confronted by John Henry Irons' doppelganger died under mysterious circumstances in 2015.
Given that Superman & Lois has a history of sudden twists and unexpected villains showing up, it would not be surprising if the introduction of Intergang might act as a springboard to bring Jack Kirby's New Gods into the Arrowverse. Kirby began introducing the characters and concepts that made up his Fourth World while writing and drawing Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen. Kirby's conceit that a race of intergalactic villains might utilize common criminals on Earth as proxies in their own grand games introduced the villain Darkseid into the DC Comics universe and it could do the same in Superman & Lois season 3. Beyond the tease of Bruno Manheim and Darkseid, the most interesting new idea introduced for Superman & Lois season 3 is the new Fortress of Solitude, which Clark Kent created alongside his family in the final scene of "Waiting for Superman." The new Fortress is more remote than the original, being located on an island made of crystal somewhere in the Arctic Sea. Despite Jonathan Kent's dry observation that only people who could fly could reach it, Clark assured him that this Fortress would somehow be accessible to their whole family.
When Will Superman & Lois Season 3 Release?
While Superman & Lois season 3 has been confirmed, it is unclear at this time just when it might air. With the CW having already announced its schedule for Fall 2022 and no superhero shows but Stargirl season 3 being on it, the soonest the series might air is early in 2023. This would fit the pattern of previous years, when Superman & Lois premiered shortly after the first of the year.
Superman & Lois season 2 is now available on The CW app and will be on HBO Max on July 29, 2022.
