Superman has spent the better part of a decade lost in space over in the pages of Superman: Lost by Christopher Priest, Cario Pagulayan, Jason Paz, and Jeromy Cox. Because he has spent so much time away from Earth, it's difficult to get situated again when he finally returns. While it's been twenty years for Clark, it's only been a few days for the people on Earth. But this time apart from Earth really goes to expose just who has Superman's best interests at heart. After a mysterious object is seen moving toward Earth, Flash expresses frustration at the fact Superman seems completely unable to get used to being a member of the Justice League again - especially because he fears once again becoming lost in space. Surprisingly, Batman is the one advocating for Superman to be given the time and space to recover.

After an alien spaceship's warp drive began to destabilize, it created a singularity that threatened to destroy the entire planet. With no other choice, Superman tried to contain the singularity, and while he did save Earth, he was also transported possibly trillions of light-years away. With no way to find his way home, Superman was completely and truly lost. What follows is Superman traveling from planet to planet, desperately trying to find a way home again. This leads him to battle aliens and even make a few new friends on a planet he comes to call Kansas, but when he does finally return home, it's the most demanding member of the Justice League that seems to be the most caring, which shows just how deep Batman and Superman's friendship truly is.

After Superman returns to Earth, it's been twenty years since he's seen Lois or Bruce or literally anyone else. He's spent so much time in space he's used to holding his breath for days at a time. It takes Clark quite a while to learn that he's safe and can just breathe again. And it's Batman that tries to be the most understanding about this. Bruce shows up at Lois' apartment to offer , he also offers to Superman directly on the Justice League Watchtower. Despite how Batman is often cold and pushes others to perfection, Batman and Superman have worked together for decades. There's almost no one Batman trusts more, so to see Superman's confidence shaken like this, the only reasonable thing Bruce could do is offer . At the same time, Superman is finding it hard to reciprocate their bond - to him, Batman is a friend he hasn't seen in decades, more of an old memory than a close companion.
