The trailer for 2025's Filming for Superman wrapped in the summer, leaving a year between principal photography and its release on July 11, suggesting that the filmmakers are dead-set on ensuring the final product is as polished as possible.
It already seems to have struck a chord with Frank Grillo, who portrays Rick Flag Sr. in both Creature Commandos and Superman, as he confessed in an interview with Collider that the trailer footage sparked a visceral reaction. He prefaced his positive response to the trailer with the revelation that he considers Superman to be his "ultimate and only superhero." His reaction certainly suggests that good things are in store with Superman, while James Gunn recently promised that the trailer will be released to the public soon. Grillo's full quote is as follows:
"I wasn’t a superhero kid. I wasn’t a comic book kid, but the one superhero — and I’m talking about from the TV show, the original TV show — was Superman. To me, he’s the ultimate and only superhero, second to maybe no one, and a long distance from that is Batman, right? Those are the two superheroes I grew up with. But to step on set and to know Gunn was at the helm, even in the capacity that I was working, was a gift. And I’ll tell you something — I hope I don’t get in trouble for this — I got a sneak peek at a little bit of the trailer, and I’m not joking, and I’m not blowing this out of proportion, my skin was hot and I had goosebumps. That’s how great it is.”
What Frank Grillo's Comments Mean For The Superman Movie Trailer
Frank Grillo's Comments Suggest Good Things For The DCU Movie
Superman is under a lot of pressure to launch the DCU on a high note. Confidence in three highest-rated DCEU productions with Peacemaker and The Suicide Squad.
James Gunn is co-CEO of DC Studios and has directed both Superman and Peacemaker season 2.
Gunn has certainly made some bold moves with the latest iteration of Superman. Costumes revealed via set photos and teasers have sparked some controversy among fans as they hint that the DCU will take a decidedly more colorful and perhaps lighthearted approach than its predecessor. It's also not surprising that Grillo is lavishing praise on the movie already given his direct involvement, though his earnest language is enough to inspire hope that Superman will be as great as he suggests.
Our Take On The Superman Movie Trailer Update
Frank Grillo's Emphatic Statements Fill Me With Confidence
Given what we know about James Gunn's track record, I'm happy to take Frank Grillo at his word on this one. It's worth recognizing that Grillo, unlike many other comic book movie actors, did not consider himself to be a "superhero kid," but being intimately knowledgeable about the main character isn't necessary to recognize when a movie looks entertaining. Following Gunn's promise of the Superman trailer releasing soon, I'm now doubly excited to see what's in store and get a better handle on how the DCU is going to look and feel down the line.
