In a development sure to get fans talking, comic book icon Dan Slott is coming to DC Comics to helm new Superman series. DC Comics has revealed an initiative that focuses on the publisher's greatest hero, and at the center of it all is a new ongoing poised to take the Man of Steel into a groundbreaking new era.
DC Comics has just announced Superman Unlimited, a new comic by Dan Slott and Raphael Albuquerque. The new series is set to bring a number of huge changes to Clark Kent's world, namely an influx of green kryptonite brought to the Earth by an asteroid.
With the Earth more full of kryptonite than it has ever been, Intergang emerges under new leadership, and they've armed themselves with a bevy of Kryptonite-augmented weaponry. Danger now lurks around every corner and if Superman wants any chance to survive this new normal, he's going to have to forge new tactics and new alliances.
Superman's Greatest Weakness is About to Be the Most Common Resource on Earth

It was only a few months ago into the Phantom Zone, allowing him to travel to Krypton's past, but he's also been an integral part of the recently revived Justice League. And that's not even getting into how his relationship with Lois has changed now that she's become Superwoman or how there's a Superman variant in the Absolute Universe who's coming into his own.
Those developments aside, prepare for more changes to come. DC's announcement for Superman Unlimited noted that this summer would begin its epic "Summer of Superman" initiative. Aside from the influx of kryptonite, a merger is going to be taking the Daily Planet global, with Lois Lane serving as editor-in-chief of the media empire. From Gotham to Gorilla City (and aided by the goddaughter of King Solovar), the Daily Planet's reach will extend all over the DC Universe. Superman Unlimited promises a lot of big things for the Man of Steel, but how much of it will be for the better?

DC's New Status Quo Just Changed Everything for the Man of Steel
Superman's no stranger to kryptonite and even has a few dedicated rogues that utilize it frequently (Metallo, the Kryptonite Man, etc). But things are going to get a lot more complicated when anyone can suddenly procure kryptonite weaponry. Even a small sliver can do serious damage to Clark (or any Kryptonian), and if a huge influx suddenly comes to Earth, that's going to force Superman to completely rethink how he fights crime. If he's not careful, Superman could easily be taken down by a single bullet tipped with kryptonite.
Of course, he's got a lot of assets on his side, such as the dramatically expanded Justice League and the now global Daily Planet. But the announcement for Superman Unlimited makes it clear that it's ushering in a new chapter for the Man of Steel's life, and it's going to take some time for Superman to get used to this unbelievable new normal.
A special prelude will be available in DC All In 2025 FCBD Special Edition #1 on May 3, 2025 and Superman Unlimited #1 will be available on May 21, 2025 from DC Comics.
