If you can believe it, in about a month, fifteenth and final season. It's bittersweet. The boys deserve a break, but man will we miss them. It's crazy to think back on the legacy Supernatural will leave behind as the longest-running show from this genre.
We've seen everything from werewolves to the Devil and even God. The next season will provide a final ending for the Winchesters. Let's enjoy the ride along the way. For now, we're looking back at the best episodes from each season and ranking where they stack up!
Who We Are (12x22)
In season twelve's penultimate season finale, Sam and Dean are caught in the middle of a dangerous fight between the American hunters and the British hunters.
The Winchesters must find a way to put a stop to the British hunters before they enact their plan to destroy them all for good. Plus, Sam finally reveals the betrayal of the British Men of Letters and their deception to make everyone believe they were allies.
Death's Door (7x10)
If you're a Bobby fan and let's be real, who isn't? Then this episode will have struck particularly hard for you. In "Death's Door," we find out that Bobby has been hit by a bullet and is dying. But the episode reveals that slowly throughout.
Meanwhile, Bobby is working on a personal case and seeing strange memories as we begin to understand he's fading away. One of the most heartbreaking moments is the end where the last memory he saves is simply of Sam and Dean's bickering.
Do You Believe In Miracles (9x23)
This episode was a little like the parallel version of season four when Sam had to be locked away to detox from demon blood. Except, in this case, Dean is the one who has to be locked up as he starts to succumb to his Mark of Cain.
Easily the most shocking moment, though is the ending when Dean opens his eyes, and we realize he's a demon! It was one of the biggest twists in Supernatural history.
Devil's Trap (1x22)
Supernatural proved it was here to stay with its exciting and terrifying season one finale. We finally got to see all three Winchester men reunited but not for a happy ending.
Instead, they come up against the deadly demon, Azazel, and fail to kill him. The season ends with the first of many cliffhangers. The boys and John are involved in a car crash caused by Azazel.
Sacrifice (8x23)
In the season finale of season eight (Supernatural was always great at its finales), we witness the falling of the angels. It also contains many sad Sam and Dean moments.
Sam is overcome by guilt for all the ways he has let Dean down and attempts to surrender to the trial, despite the fact it will kill him. Dean convinces him not to, but Sam winds up crumpling in pain anyway.
Lebanon (14x13)
When it was announced that Jeffrey Dean Morgan would return for season fourteen, fans didn't know exactly what to expect. "Lebanon" delivered one of the best episodes of the series and gave fans a real treat.
Sam finally got to tell his father he loved him. We got to see John and Mary together again. And even better, we got some genuinely beautiful scenes between the whole Winchester family. If only it could be like that forever!
Mystery Spot (3x11)
"Mystery Spot" introduced us to a character who would become a fan-favorite and the star of several other amazing episodes such as "Changing Channels." Initially, we thought the Trickster was only that, but we find out later he is Gabriel, the archangel.
In this episode, Dean keeps dying in a Groundhog Day-like loop. Sam has to contend with the fact his brother really will go to Hell soon and there's nothing he can do to stop it.
All Hell Breaks Loose Part 2 (2x22)
In the season finale of season two, Sam is fatally stabbed by one of the Azazel's gifted children. I dare you not to sob when Dean is forced to cradle his brother's dead body for the first (of many) times.
This episode also shows Dean making a pivotal decision that echoes his father's as Dean makes a demon deal. He agrees to give up his soul in a year if Sam can be brought back to life.
Lazarus Rising (4x01)
When season three ended with Dean being tortured in Hell many fans were heartbroken and confused as to where the show could go from here. Season four then begins with Dean waking up back on Earth with no clue as to how he got there.
We find out by the end of the episode that Dean was ripped out of Hell by Castiel, an angel. Cas' introduction fundamentally changed the show's mythology forever.
Fan Fiction (10x05)
Supernatural is at its best when it goes meta. This episode is one of the best examples of that as the series celebrates the massive milestone of reaching 200 episodes.
In "Fan Fiction", the boys stumble upon a high school where they're putting on a musical about their lives, based on the book series written by Chuck, of course. There are tons of in-jokes, running gags, fourth-wall-breakage, and familiar faces in "Fan Fiction." It's the perfect tribute to the fans.
