Hunter Dean Winchester and Archangel Castiel aka Cass have one of the best TV friendships ever in the CW series Supernatural. After spending four grueling months in Hell after being captured by hellhounds, Dean was miraculously saved by the angel Castiel and taken back to Earth. A friendship thus developed between the two.

Their friendship lasted from the fourth season up to the fifteenth and final one. Before Castiel's arrival, Dean didn't believe in angels. It was only after Castiel showed his supernatural abilities that Dean trusted him. The following are details about the two friends that fans probably didn't know about.

Murdering Archangels

Dean and Castiel have both killed an archangel with the assistance of external higher powers. At the end of the tenth season, Castiel killed Raphael—the third of the four archangels created by God—with the help of the souls of Purgatory. After Crowley's retreat, Castiel snapped his fingers and killed Raphael.

Dean also killed Lucifer with the help of Alternate Michael. Described as the "Genghis Khan" on the Apocalypse World, Michael's powers proved to be the most effective against Lucifer.

Villain Killers

Both Dean and Castiel have proven to be competent villain killers. In the finale of the second season, Dean killed Azazel, the Prince Of Hell who served as one of Lucifer's henchmen. The Winchester men had hunted Azazel for almost two decades. He also killed Dick Roman, the billionaire and secret leader of the Leviathans.

His other notable kills are that of Abaddon, the Hell Knight, and Lucifer. Castiel also killed the Archangel Raphael and also assisted  Deal in killing Dick Roman during the Battle of SucroCorp.

The episode itself had Western themes. In it, Castiel was finally reunited with Jack. With the company of Sam and Dean, they made their way to an old, creepy western town to investigate a bizarre murder that had been committed. Dean ended up coming face to face with a gun-slinging outlaw and that's when he let out details about the movie dates with Castiel.

Love For Music

Dean and Castiel also share a love for music. In the Season 12 episode titled "The Future," it was revealed that Dean gave Castiel a mixtape titled "Top 13 Led Zeppelin Tracks" as a gift. Led Zeppelin was a real-life English rock band that was formed in London way back in 1968.

While Dean was in his room, Castiel came over and offered to return the Led Zeppelin cassette tape that he had given him earlier. Dean refused and told Castiel that the tape was actually a gift and that he could keep it.

Castiel's Task

Sam, Dean, and Castiel in Apocalypse World in Supernatural

Castiel has been given many tasks throughout the series and he has failed in a huge number of them. However, there's only one key task that he has managed to honor.

In his debut, Heaven tasked Castiel with watching over Dean and being something of a guardian angel to him. His main task was to save Dean from Hell and he did so quite effectively. He even died while trying to help Dean stop Sam Winchester from breaking the last of the 66 seals. Luckily, he was resurrected by God.

They Might Be Romantically Involved

This has been a recurring topic in fanfiction sites. The show has hinted at a romantic relationship between the pair on a few occasions but it has never really delved into it. For example, in Season 10's fifth episode, appropriately titled "Fan Fiction," Sam went on to refer to the pair as "Destiel."

And in the Season 6 episode "The Third Man," Castiel confessed that he and Dean "share a special bond." And when Sam asked, "So what, you like him better or something?" Castiel responded with a "Yes!" And in Season Four's episode titled, "Lucifer Rising," an angry Dean snarled, "We're done!" to Castiel.

The Mistletoe Moment

In Season 8's, "Hunteri Heroici," Castiel attempted to do some detective work like Dean and provided plenty of comic relief rather than procedural grit. He also revealed his intentions to stay with the Winchesters at night in their hotel room despite the fact that he never really slept.

He then gave Dean a promise, saying "I'll watch over you." Obviously, Castiel knew that already. After those words, there was a mistletoe hanging above the heads of Dean and Cas.

He Lied To Dean For Over A Year

Castiel wasn't exactly the nicest of angels. Viewers might forget this, given the fact that he appeared nice most of the time. There was a moment Castiel chose to work with the demon Crowley instead of Dean. He even did the unthinkable by opening the gates to Purgatory without Dean's knowledge.

Dean would only come to know the truth after a whole year. And Castiel was quite unapologetic about it, stating to the Winchesters: "So you will bow down and profess your love unto me, your Lord. Or I shall destroy you."

Castiel Knows Exactly How To Get In Dean's Good's Graces

Both Castiel and Sam have offended Dean a number of times. The difference is that Dean always has a harder time forgiving Sam than forgiving Castiel. This is simply because Castiel knows the way to Dean's heart.

In Season 8's"Clip Show," Castiel assembled an adorable but awkward gift basket for Dean as part of an apology. In the basket, there was toilet paper, beef jerky, magazines, and a couple of drinks. The tactic worked. Cass once demanded for a pie to take to Dean too because he knew it would make his mood better.

Dean Does Everything Cass Wants

He really doesn't have an option. When your friend is an angel, you simply have to trust them. While Cass has taken Dean for granted many times, Dean always does Cass' bidding.

At one point, Dean even tells Castiel "I do everything you ask. I always come when you call." This made Castiel feel a little guilty, given how often he has been bad towards Dean. However, his attitude late improved. He became willing to answer more prayers and also dedicated more time to protect Dean.
