terrifying supernatural monster.
These deaths were part of the many Supernatural began to change over the seasons, there were an increasing number of episodes that did not contain death at all.
7 Season 4, Episode 18, “The Monster at the End of This Book”
Supernatural's Books Are Introduced
Supernatural’s fourth season introduced the first-ever episode where no one dies. “The Monster at the End of This Book” sees Sam and Dean discover that their lives have been recorded in a series of books titled “Supernatural,” which, much like the show at the time, has a cult following. Tracking down the author, the Winchesters find a bumbling writer called Chuck Shurley, who uses the pseudonym “Carver Edlund,” and he reveals that he has visions of the brothers that fuel his writing.
Chuck’s pseudonym “Carver Edlund” is a reference to Supernatural’s writers, Jeremy Carver and Ben Edlund.
Unlike the usual screaming monster attack, this Supernatural episode begins with Chuck Shurley dreaming about Sam and Dean on his couch. When Chuck realizes that Sam and Dean are real, he claims “Obviously I’m a god,” which is quickly denied by the brothers, although later in the show Chuck does reveal himself to be God. Therefore, “The Monster at the End of This Book” is arguably one of the most important episodes of the entire show as it features Chuck’s first appearance, and the lack of character death only adds to his suspicious nature.
6 Season 4, Episode 21, “When the Levee Breaks”
Sam Goes Through Demon Blood Withdrawals
“When the Levee Breaks” marks the second episode of season 4, and Supernatural as a whole, to feature no character deaths. Following one of the worst mistakes Sam has made in Supernatural, season 4, episode 21, sees Dean and Bobby lure Sam into Bobby’s panic room to cure his addiction to demon blood. But their plan goes awry when Castiel unlocks the door, allowing Sam to return to Ruby, the cause of his addiction, and drink more demon blood.
Despite the lack of deaths, the episode has a lot of action and drama; Sam hallucinates while going through withdrawal, Castiel talks to Anna about his orders, and Sam and Dean have one of the worst fights in Supernatural.
Despite the lack of deaths, the episode has a lot of action and drama; Sam hallucinates while going through withdrawal, Castiel talks to Anna about his orders, and Sam and Dean have one of the worst fights in Supernatural. After Dean tries to kill Ruby for essentially poisoning his brother, the Winchesters have a brutal fight and Dean is choked until he is close to losing consciousness and subsequently echoes the words of their father, “If you walk out that door, don't you ever come back!”
5 Season 8, Episode 23, “Sacrifice”
Supernatural Retconned Naomi's Death
Throughout season 8, the Winchesters partake in the Trials of God to seal the gates of Heaven and Hell for good, and this comes to a head in the season finale, “Sacrifice.” After binding Crowley in a church, Sam begins the last Trial, injecting Crowley with human blood and slowly turning him human. Meanwhile, Castiel is still being manipulated by Metatron into completing Trials to expel the angels from Heaven, as opposed to closing the gates.
Naomi is one of the few villains in Supernatural to show remorse for their actions.
There are quite a few near-deaths in the episode: Jody Mills is hexed by Crowley, Sam burns Abaddon with Holy Oil, the effects of the Trials wear Sam thin, and Castiel’s throat is slit to remove his grace. However, one of Supernatural’s strongest villains is killed by Metatron when he takes over Heaven and kills Naomi with her own torture drill. While this episode originally contained one death, in season 13, Naomi reveals herself to be alive, claiming that she faked her death years ago, meaning that there are no actual deaths in “Sacrifice.”
4 Season 10, Episode 17, “Inside Man”
Bobby Breaks Metatron Out Of Heaven
After Dean becomes infected with the Mark of Cain, he begins to slowly succumb to the demonic curse, leading Sam and Castiel to worriedly intervene in “Inside Man.” The inside man in the episode is revealed to be Bobby, who helps Sam and Castiel to break Metatron out of his prison cell in Heaven so that he will tell them how to remove the Mark. Meanwhile, Rowena attacks Dean as she hates him for making Crowley weak.

Supernatural: The Most Powerful Creatures, Officially Ranked
Dean and Sam have battled many dangerous creatures on Supernatural. These are the most powerful beings they've faced yet.
Rowena uses an Attack Dog spell on a few college boys, causing them to become violent and target Dean, and uses their lives as a bargain to escape when she fails. Fortunately for Rowena, Dean has not yet succumbed to the full homicidal urges of the Mark and allows her to escape, sparing the boys’ lives. There were multiple attempts on people’s lives in this Supernatural episode, however, none of them were followed through, making “Inside Man” one of the few episodes where no one dies.
3 Season 11, Episode 23, “Alpha and Omega”
Amara Almost Killed Everyone
Season 11’s finale marks the second Supernatural finale where no one dies, which is surprising as it follows on from the previous episode in which Amara attacks Chuck. In “Alpha and Omega,” Crowley, Chuck, Rowena, Lucifer, Castiel, and the Winchesters all assemble to see through their plan of killing Amara. However, while Rowena transfers souls from the Veil into Dean, essentially turning him into a soul bomb, Amara begins to realize her mistakes.
As God and Amara reunite and resolve their problems, the dying sun is restored, and God removes the souls from Dean. Yet the rest of the group are clueless about Dean’s survival, instead thinking that he succeeded in his suicide mission.
As God and Amara reunite and resolve their problems, the dying sun is restored, and God removes the souls from Dean. Yet the rest of the group are clueless about Dean’s survival, instead thinking that he succeeded in his suicide mission. “Alpha and Omega” actually sees the opposite of character death, as Dean finds his mother resurrected as a thank-you gift from Amara, in one of the most defining moments in Supernatural.
2 Season 12, Episode 2, “Mamma Mia”
Sam Gets Tortured By Lady Bevell
In “Mamma Mia,” Sam is tortured by Toni Bevell, a member of the British Men of Letters who has gone rogue, while Lucifer has possessed a rock star named Vince Vincente. The opening scene shows Sam in a hallucination with Toni, who has given him a potion as a method of torture, as opposed to the usual monster attack. Although Sam is tortured extensively, he is eventually rescued by Dean and Mary, who knock Toni out.

How Many Times Dean Died In Supernatural
Dean Winchester has died and been resurrected many times in 15 seasons of Supernatural, a show that's infamous bringing characters back from death.
On the other hand, Lucifer does actually attack Vince’s bandmate when he tries to convince Vince to go out with him. Lucifer throws his bandmate through a door, and he appears to be knocked unconscious. Although this probably killed the man, it is never confirmed in the show and many characters have survived a lot worse, making this a plausible survival.
1 Season 14, Episode 18, “Absence”
Jack Struggles With Mary's Death
Much like its title, Supernatural’s “Absence” has an absence of deaths in the episode. In the previous episode, Jack accidentally causes the death of Sam and Dean’s mother, Mary, marking the second time she has died in Supernatural, by using his Nephilim powers. While ranked as one of the worst Supernatural seasons, “Absence” is actually one of the most emotional episodes as it is the second time that the Winchesters have lost their mother.
At the end of "Absence," Mary’s initials have been added to the bunker’s table.
Despite Jack trying to resurrect Mary, he fails, and Sam and Dean are left to mourn their mother. While Castiel tells Dean that he saw Mary had reunited with John in Heaven, and that they are both happy, Dean finds it hard to forgive Jack for what he has done. “Absence” is the last episode of Supernatural to not feature any deaths as, unfortunately, even season 15’s final episodes see the deaths of Castiel, Sam, and Dean.
