There’s all sorts of ways to analyse a character’s personality these days, as multiple fandoms have brought about classes for attributes where other series characters can also be applied. One of these happens to be the Dungeons & Dragons character classes.

Out of all the fandoms there are, as their fighting spirit and styles fit perfectly here. That said, here are the D&D classes for the main cast of hunters seen on Supernatural, and where they would fall under.

Sam Winchester - Cleric

Supernatural Sam Winchester

Sam is a bit of everything, in that he’s a fighter, close enough to be a witch, and is pretty tech-savvy to boot. All of these combined would qualify him as a Cleric, whose attributes are to act as healers that can contribute in combat as well.

Sam’s always been the level-headed Winchester, along with the one seen doing the medical aspect of things once the brothers need to clean up after a fight. He contributes in more than just the fighting part of the hunt, and his versatility is what a Cleric is made for.

Jody Mills - Fighter

Supernatural Sheriff Jody Mills Rock and a Hard Place 9.08

A fighter is of the class of characters who can arrive from any kind of background, be it an adventurous one or a tragic one. Jody Mills didn’t have the formal training to be a hunter, yet has been fighting this fight for a while now.

However, rather than be a brawler out there, Jody has taken to doing her homework in this area and has learned the required skills. She might not be the flashiest, but she does have the fighting spirit through and through.

Mary Winchester - Druid

Mary winchester.v1

This is something of a weaker class than Clerics, although they are similar. Druids have qualities that allow them to be valuable assists in natural settings, while also having magical abilities. They aren’t that good in combat, though.

Mary Winchester fits the bill here, as her role had always been to provide assists rather than be the aggressor. She didn’t have much difficulty integrating herself in a new environment, as seen in the Apocalypse World and among new allies. Finally, she wasn’t much of a fighter, but worked well in a team.

Claire Novak - Barbarian

These class of characters are considered as strikers; those who go all-out in their fights. Their special ability includes their inherent rage, making them both strong but also vulnerable due to lack of tactics.

Claire’s main drive has been her anger at losing her normal childhood. She harnessed this rage into hunting, being a dangerous person capable of holding her own. However, Claire did get trapped on a few occasions due to losing her cool, and even then she relied on brutality over planning to escape.

Garth Fitzgerald - Paladin

DJ Qualls as Garth in Supernatural

Paladin are the class who fight in the name of good. These ones have a strict type of morality they don’t stray away from and can be considered as the embodiment of what it means to fight for a cause.

Garth easily falls under this category, as there was never any kind of malice where he was concerned. He was always willing to help and did just that even when his own life was threatened. Unlike the other characters, who did do bad on occasion, Garth remained with a clean record and only hunted those who deserved to be.

John Winchester - Fighter

Though some might argue that John could be a Cleric given that he was always the leader, there’s also the matter that basically all his actions fell under the Fighter class. After all, he was originally a normal man who turned to hunting after Mary’s death.

This led to John throwing it all on the line to hunt down monsters for the sake of protecting people, something that didn’t require natural-born skill or extra powers. However, he then learned all these things and grew to be a skilled man for the job. Along with that, his fighting spirit was what made him out to be the expert hunter he was.

Jo Harvelle - Paladin

Jo Harvelle in Supernatural

Although it was the death of her father that made her want to hunt, Jo wasn’t about simple head-bashing or ripping out hearts. Instead, she wanted to purge the world of monsters so that no other child would be left without a parent as she did.

Even in her final moments, Jo acted in the name of good, just as a Paladin would. She sacrificed herself so that her friends could escape. As a ghost, too, Jo remained someone who wanted to stick to her code of conduct, and she remained one of the few who didn’t get corrupted.

Bobby Singer - Bard

Jim Beaver as Bobby

Bards are the type who can control a scene using their charisma and their talent for versatility. In this vein, Bobby happened to be the one to keep Sam and Dean in check simply through his words, while his talent for hunting came in many ways.

Bobby could contribute in fights very well, was well-learned in all types of lore, and was especially vital in ing down information to the boys. This kind of variety easily falls within the Bard class, and Bobby is a prime example.

Charlie Bradbury - Rogue

Felicia Day as Charlie Bradbury - Supernatural

The Rogue characters are those who are deceptive, in that they use sneak attacks and tricks to get the job done. Charlie was the go-to person for such means for the Winchesters, who enlisted her help to break into places that would otherwise be impossible to infiltrate.

Her knack for sneakiness was such that she almost got away with it against the genius Leviathans, and even Dick Roman called her a completely unique person. The Rogue class is pretty much tailor made for Charlie considering all her attributes.

Dean Winchester - Barbarian

Dean’s the muscle for the good guys, being the one to take out most of the big bads. He also tends to leave the smart tactics over to Sam, instead relying on himself for the killings. Dean’s fighting style isn’t exactly a strategic one either, and he simply goes all-out to get the job done.

Barbarians are the ones most similar with this type of personality, and Dean even displays some of the funnier side of things by overlooking simple things on occasion. He does have the qualities of a Fighter class, too, but the Barbarian attribute of laying it all on the line goes better with Dean’s characterization.
