I was a huge fan of Supernatural from the start, but I did always wish the show could have crossed over with another spectacular supernatural series from nearly a decade earlier. Before The CW, The WB was home to some of the best shows featuring superheroes, monsters, and all sorts of exciting stuff that appealed to teenagers and young adults. And fitting firmly into that category, I loved tuning in to watch shows like Smallville and Supernatural.

These incredible shows excelled in their storytelling ability, and featured captivating heroes that hooked you from the start. However, before Supernatural, there were some other standout shows that managed to evoke the same level of excitement and intensity, and despite being just before my time, I got into them when I was old enough to check them out for myself. This led to a lifelong love of supernatural shows, but I would have loved to see my first two loves come together for some sort of crossover event, and despite Supernatural season 16 being unlikely to do it, I have rekindled hope due to the other series receiving a revival.

With Buffy The Vampire Slayer's Reboot Confirmed, A Supernatural Crossover Would Be Perfect

There Is A Lot Of Overlap Between Buffy And Supernatural

Buffy the Vampire Slayer premiered in 1997 on The WB, which was a very new channel at the time. Though the show began on The WB, it went on to move to UPN, a network owned by Paramount for its final two seasons. And for me, growing up in Ireland, the series aired on another network years later, around the same time that Supernatural was airing. Buffy was a spectacular show that defined the monster of the week, supernatural coming-of-age story, and I was hooked from the start.

And watching both shows in close succession, I always felt that the two would be perfect for some sort of crossover event. Supernatural did this with shows like Scooby-Doo, which was a wonderful callback to Saturday morning cartoons, but I was desperate to see Buffy Summers and the Winchesters come together to form a new Scooby gang. And now that Buffy is getting a reboot which will bring Sarah Michelle Gellar back to the role, it feels like the possibility of a crossover is not out of reach.

There Are A Lot Of Hurdles To Overcome To Get A Crossover Off The Ground

But here's the big issue. While both shows began life on the same network, they diverged into separate directions. Buffy migrated to UPN in 2001, four years before Supernatural debuted. And then, to create yet another degree of separation, The WB reformed into a new network called The CW. Now, both shows exist in totally different parts of the TV landscape, with different owners, and bringing them together would be a tremendous and costly challenge.

Now, there is a possibility that the actors who played the roles of Sam and Dean Winchester, Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles, could appear in a cameo role in the Buffy revival, and they could even portray similar characters to the Winchesters, but it wouldn't be exactly the same. However, I will take what I can get, and I would be overjoyed if they had a guest appearance on the show to help appeal to fans of either series. Or, there could be an even more satisfying outcome on the cards...

Supernatural Deserves To Get More Of Their Story Told Too

Buffy the Vampire Slayer is coming back for a revival. That is nearly certain, with the cast and crew signed on to make it happen, the only thing left is for the series to get a pilot order, but it's hard to imagine many networks would up the opportunity to be involved in bringing one of the most enduring and popular supernatural shows back to the screen. And if there is no crossover between Buffy and Supernatural, it's still a great outcome to get more Buffy at the end of the day.

But, if this could serve as a case study for Supernatural, with those involved in making the show recognizing the excitement of a similar fanbase, that would be spectacular. Supernatural had a ridiculously strong run with 15 seasons in 15 years, but when the show ended, fans were still not ready to say goodbye to the Winchesters, myself included. And despite having a pretty definitive ending, it did feel like there was a lot more story to be told, which drives up my hopes for a Supernatural season 16, telling more stories about the Winchesters.
