spinoff The Winchesters was canceled after season one, clearing a path for the main show's return, and both Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki have remained open to a Supernatural reunion on the many occasions they've been asked. Supernatural season 16 remains unconfirmed, officially speaking, but feels very strongly like an inevitability.
If Supernatural season 16 does ever happen, there are plenty of unresolved storylines to pick up. The Winchesters never properly finished its Akrida arc, Dean and Castiel never got to discuss the romantic (or otherwise) nature of their parting moments, and God's alarmingly straightforward defeat in season 15 means Supernatural's uber-villain can easily return. One of the first items on Supernatural season 16's agenda, however, should be to revisit season 6 and fix an especially upsetting injustice from Dean Winchester's adult life.
Supernatural Season 16 Must Bring Back Lisa & Ben (& Restore Their Memories)
Supernatural Totally Forgot About Lisa & Ben
Dean Winchester was famous for his bed-hopping antics, and died before ever settling down permanently. Jensen Ackles' character did, however, come close to familial bliss with Lisa Braeden and her son, Ben, who Dean treated like his own child. Supernatural season 6 ended the Braedens' story in tragic circumstances when Dean decided removing himself from the minds of both Lisa and Ben was the only way to protect them.
Lisa and Ben's Supernatural ending was simply too tragic to be the last chapter of their story, and a much too significant part of Dean's life to be dropped completely.
It always felt like Supernatural would circle back to the Braedens, restore their memories - easily done in Supernatural's world - and reverse arguably the most heartbreaking moment in Dean's story. On the contrary, Supernatural barely mentioned the characters again, and when Dean died in Supernatural season 15's finale, Lisa and Ben still had no recollection of the hunter who loved them dearly - the missing member of their family unit.

10 Things I'd Want Supernatural Season 16 To Change About The Original Show
Supernatural could be set to return for a season 16, but if it did, I'd like to see a few things done differently for the show's return.
Dean's justification for wiping himself from Lisa and Ben's minds never really made sense. Dean still cared about them greatly, so any anti-Winchester foes could still have gained leverage over the brothers by kidnapping the Braedens. Indeed, removing Lisa and Ben's knowledge of all things paranormal actually put them at greater risk, since it would have lowered their guard against otherworldly threats.
Logic gaps aside, Lisa and Ben's Supernatural ending was simply too tragic to be the last chapter of their story, and a much too significant part of Dean's life to be dropped completely. Supernatural season 15 may have had more pressing matters to deal with, but if season 16 ever happens, there will be no excuse not to finish Dean and Lisa's doomed romance in a more satisfying way.
Supernatural Season 16 Needs To Focus On Dean's Ending
It Should Be Dean's Time If Supernatural Gets Another Go Around
Only one Winchester brother got a happy ending in Supernatural, and it wasn't the one who found themselves impaled on a metal spike at the hands of a vampire. While Dean was at least afforded a heartwarming afterlife reunion with Bobby Singer, it was Sam who, via a series of flashforwards, lived his best life and started a family. If Supernatural ever gets another go, it would make sense to flip the script and focus on molding a more fulfilling final fate for Dean.
Dean often claimed that hunters and happy endings don't mix, but Sam's later life proves that assertion was wrong.
Lisa was, by some distance, the closest Dean ever came to a "one true love" in Supernatural, while Ben was his surrogate son long before Jack came along. It's unthinkable that Dean Winchester's Supernatural story could ever feel truly whole without the Braedens being involved, so if Supernatural season 16 does decide to give Dean a proper encore instead of just an Impala ride around Heaven while he waits for Sam to die, Lisa and Ben are unavoidably necessary additions.
How Lisa & Ben's Story Can Have A Happy Ending When Dean Is Already Dead
Death Is Little More Than A Setback In Supernatural
Dean's death does place somewhat of an obstacle in front of any hopes he will rekindle romance with Lisa, but all is not entirely lost. Even if Dean stayed dead, an angel could easily restore Lisa and Ben's memories, and that simple act alone would bring a much greater sense of closure to their story. Even if Dean stayed dead, Lisa and Ben could cherish the memories they already made in the past, resolving the cruelest aspect of their Supernatural ending in its current form.
A Supernatural ending where both Winchester brothers are saving people, hunting things, and changing diapers would improve significantly upon the existing finale.
As seen in The Winchesters, Dean Winchester plays fast and loose with the rules of death, so a final farewell with the Braedens isn't out of the question. Dean could even promise to watch over them from afar, which, again, would represent a much more rounded finish to the trio's bond than season 15 managed. Since this is Supernatural, however, one can never rule out an old-fashioned resurrection either. Death is often temporary where Supernatural's main characters are concerned, and while Dean initially wanted to stay gone, the prospect of a life with Lisa and Ben would likely be enough to change his mind.
There is nothing in Supernatural's final scene - the one with Sam and Dean both in Heaven - to confirm that Dean stayed dead the entire time. Ackles' character could absolutely return to the living realm in season 16, then enjoy the same balance of monster hunting and family life that his brother seemed to find after the last episode. A Supernatural ending where both Winchester brothers are saving people, hunting things, and changing diapers would improve significantly upon the existing finale, and right a wrong that has stood for 13 long years.
