With Supernatural's immense popularity, it's possible that the show could be revived for season 16, and if that happens, there's one perfect setup to bring back the incredible Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Sam and Dean's dad, John Winchester. Supernatural had an incredible run from 2005 to 2020 with 15 seasons and 327 episodes. However, five years after the show ended, and one failed spin-off later, there are still plenty of fans who want to see the Winchester's back on the small screen. The show could be rebooted, or another spin-off could start up.

However, it seems like the most popular option for fans of Sam and Dean Winchester is to simply return to the show with a Supernatural season 16. This would make sense for bringing back the original characters, but it would also mean that the show could play with some older storylines that didn't get as much development the first time around. For instance, the incredible Jeffrey Dean Morgan was cast as the boy's father, but for much of the show's run, he was absent, with the character being missing for much of the premiere season, and then dying in the first episode of season 2.

The HunterCorp John Winchester Is Still Alive In Supernatural's Multiverse

The Multiverse Of Supernatural Is Packed With Familiar Faces

While John Winchester did make another brief appearance in the 300th episode, this was not permanent, and ended on a bittersweet note. But, if Supernatural season 16 is made, there is another John waiting in the wings to return to the show. In season 15, the boys get familiar with the reality of alternate worlds, and one of these worlds contains another version of Sam and Dean who appear to be much more financially secure than the regular Winchesters. As it turns out, their exceptional wealth is a result of their father, John Winchester, having set up a company known as HunterCorp, which took off and became highly profitable.

All 7 Supernatural Episodes Where No One Dies

As a show that largely follows a death-per-episode formula of various one-off characters, there are only 7 episodes in Supernatural where no one dies.

In their reality, John is still alive and well, considering his new role as a CEO and businessman likely keeps him cosy and safe away from the action on the frontlines. So, despite the regular Winchesters' dad being dead in their world, it's possible for the HunterCorp version to appear. The chances of this happening are enhanced due to the fact that his sons have now settled in the other's world, choosing to live a more relaxed life in Rio de Janeiro without their father's business hanging over them.

HunterCorp John Would Be Better Than Supernatural Bringing Back The Real John Again

The Regular John Winchester Has Already Has His Story Told

Despite Supernatural being a show that deals with magic, myths, and legends, it would lose momentum if it simply brought the real John back again. Yes, Sam and Dean have been resurrected a lot, but there was always a reason and a strong story to go with it. John has been dead and gone for many years, and it wouldn't make sense for the boys to go chasing him down again. Especially since other close friends and even family have died since, and the boys let them rest in peace.

If Supernatural season 16 is made, there is another John waiting in the wings to return to the show.

In addition, John's appearance in the 300th episode, and his role as the star in a spin-off means that the character has been developed enough in a variety of ways. Bringing in an alternate reality John, who acts, speaks, and responds differently to the original, despite looking the same, would be more entertaining. It would be a new challenge for the boys, and it would give Jeffrey Dean Morgan a little room to play the character in new ways, making it a more appealing role to play. So, if Supernatural 16 does happen, JDM has a clear route back.
