  • There is a possibility of the story exploring the reorganizing of Heaven and Sam working alongside Dean on a major mission.

After Supernatural season 15's heartwarming ending, it appears the boys got their happy ever after, but Sam and Dean never stay dead, and the show could be renewed for a season 16 return. Supernatural ran from 2005 to 2020 and had 15 seasons exploring the world of angels and demons, with the talented hunters Sam and Dean Winchester. Their adventures saw them fend off countless threats, and save the world more times than can be counted, but the series finale appeared to conclude their story for good.

After the boys stopped another world-ending event, Chuck (God) left the universe, Jack stepped in to take over the position of God, and Dean met his end in Supernatural when a vampire got the better of him. In his final moments, Dean had Sam promise to leave him dead and move on. As hard as that was, Sam did it and got to enjoy a full life with a wife and start his own family, raising his son. Then, in the final moments of the episode, Sam is seen reaching old age, ing away gently, and reuniting with his brother in heaven.

6 Sam Becomes A Father

Raising A Son In A World Of Monsters

Sam Winchester And His Son In Supernatural Season 15 Episode 20

Assuming the series won't walk back on its ending, creating confusion and potential upset from fans, Sam is set to become a dad in the years after Dean dies. Exploring Sam's relationship with his family, the struggles of fatherhood, and whatever connection he may still have to hunting could create an interesting story, but bringing Dean back would introduce a bigger challenge. Sam could take on a role similar to Bobby's or Garth's and help direct and aid other hunters in a less field-based role.

In this capacity, Sam could honor his role as a father and protect his family to the best of his abilities, while still being involved in the world of hunting. Sam is incredibly intelligent and a great researcher, so his skills as a man with a phone and a computer could still help to fight off the forces of evil. Dean could also appear as a spirit, as he did in The Winchesters spin-off, to help other hunters or Sam when they run into trouble that they can't quite get out of.

8 Ways Supernatural Can Continue After Its Season 15 Ending

Since the announcement of Supernatural’s potential return, many have been wondering how the series will return after its definite season 15 ending.

5 Dean Is Resurrected

Fighting Against A New Supernatural Threat

Of course, Dean had Sam promise him that he wouldn't try to resurrect him, but that doesn't mean that someone else couldn't do it. If Sam was in trouble, and another hunter wanted to help rescue him, it could be possible that someone else has decided to try and bring Dean back to keep Sam and his family safe. Jack is now the God of heaven, and as a result, he is infinitely powerful. If anyone was able to bring someone back from the dead, Jack could definitely do it.

4 Heaven Goes To Hell

Reorganizing Heaven Isn't Such An Easy Task

Castiel in Heaven in Supernatural

Angels aren't the most peace-loving creatures in the universe, despite the rumors. Angels in Supernatural were at the heart of the war in heaven, and their fighting caused enormous destruction and devastation. With Chuck having left the universe and Jack stepping in to become the new god, it's entirely possible that some of the angels disagree with the new leadership, and more fighting could break out. Jack may need all the help he can get, and it was revealed that Castiel was brought back by Jack, potentially to aid in the restructuring of heaven.

It would also make sense for Sam to be called upon to in these efforts and help put heaven to rights alongside his brother Dean. Either, Jack could take him from Earth and have him help out soon after Dean dies, or, it's possible that Sam lived out his whole life, and then gets a chance to work with his brother on a major mission like this after death. Time works differently in Heaven, and when Sam is seen having ed away in his old age, when he reunites with his brother, he is in his prime again.

3 Destiel

Castiel Confirms Whether He Loves Dean Winchester Romantically

Dean and Castiel in Supernatural

A major ship from the fans revolved around a relationship between Dean and Castiel. In the final season of Supernatural, before Castiel sacrifices himself to save Dean, he reveals that he loved him, but there wasn't enough time to dig into what he said and find out if that meant romantically. Historically, Dean has always chased women, but there is no telling what could happen if the two were reunited in season 16. Having Castiel laying out his true feelings would be a good start.

The pandemic seriously effected the Supernatural series finale, but if it hadn’t, there are several cameos the final episode should have included.

2 The Winchesters Go Back To Basics

The Boys Return To Hunting And Taking Down The Monsters

Sam and Dean with guns in Supernatural

Later seasons of Supernatural started to explore more wild and wonderful plots, with mythology, gods, angels, and devils all rearing their heads and causing havoc. However, the show could decide to go in another direction with season 16 and explore other parts of their time together. Either, the show could revisit hunting trips that happened between the televised adventures, or, if the characters are reunited somehow, they could settle into good old-fashioned hunting of small-time monsters and legends.

The bigger storylines were exciting and engaging, but there was also something uniquely special about the boys simply fighting off demons, and the series being more horror-related. Going back to these basics makes a lot of sense, because most major threats, like the Leviathan, the Empty, and God himself have all been eliminated. With the bigger threats finally laid to rest, it would make sense to go back to the basic monsters and demons that seemed to pop up all over the US and see the Winchesters do their small part.

1 Chuck Didn't Leave

Chuck Was Secretly Behind Supernatural Season 15's Ending (& Is Still God)

This theory may be more far-fetched, but it would make a lot of sense to move into season 16 with both Sam and Dean. Chuck is all-powerful, and indifferent to the suffering, pain, and upset of his creations. Despite creating all life, Chuck was more interested in fulfilling his own interests rather than hearing anyone else's. In Supernatural's final season, Chuck battled the Winchesters for one last time, and with his omnipotence, he revealed that he had set the plan for Jack to become a celestial bomb in motion.

However, if that is the case, there is nothing to say he wasn't planning something even bigger and more devious. Chuck saw everything and possessed all the power in the universe, so taking him down at all was a wild idea with almost no chance of success. But, it's possible that the Winchesters never got the better of him, Jack never took over as God and everything that happened after the fight was a false reality constructed by Chuck to distract the Winchesters. This would leave the future of Supernatural wide open for new seasons and adventures to be explored.
