Every drama or film needs a good dynamic between the main character and their trusted companion. In many cases, it's the best friend. The best friend or friends is a vital role in many storylines when regarding the main characters. They're a shoulder to cry on, they help uncover hidden truths or in some cases are there throughout the entire complex journey.
Where would the main character be without their best friend? There have been many best friend characters that fans have fallen in love with over the years. Some are the absolute best while others can hardly be considered a good friend.
Jacob Black (Twilight)
Jacob Black's role as Bella's love interest and best friend makes for an intriguing yet tiresome story throughout the Twilight films. When the films first came out many fans separated into Team Jacob and Team Edward. But if looking at Jacob's role as the best friend, he acted in ways that weren't in Bella's best interest.
He was there when Edward left and became her main system and promised to always protect her. But Jacob many times tried to forcefully leave the friend zone. He was blind to Bella's love for Edward and many times tried to ruin their relationship or get inside Bella's head. Not to mention, he was also willing to kill his best friend's newborn. Jacob does have his moments when he proves himself to be a loyal friend.
Simon (The Mortal Instruments)
Simon was a ing character in The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones as Claire's best friend. As a friend, Simon tetters the fine line. He was a good friend up until Claire discovers the truth about her mother and Shadowhunters. Before this, Simon was her best friend who did everything with her.
After the newfound truth, he changes and at first accepts the new reality of the world they live in. But Simon is still skeptical especially when it comes to Jace, a Shadowhunter, and Claire's love interest. It's revealed that he's upset and confronts Claire because he's in love with her and ultimately shuts her out.
Willow (Buffy The Vampire Slayer)
Willow Rosenberg became an icon when it came to supernatural best friends. Infair share of wrongdoings as a friend. If looking at all the good she's done for Buffy it somewhat evens out.
She dabbles in magic to re-ensoul Angel, who was a huge part of Buffy's story and love interest. In the beginning, she vowed to help Buffy in her fight against evil by being a sidekick and doing a lot of the computer work. She even re-souled Angel who meant a great deal to Buffy. But on many occasions, Willow wasn't always the good friend. She resurrected Buffy without thinking of the possible backlash. She even put the lives of Buffy's loved ones at risk.
Harvey, Theo and Roz (Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina)
Sabrina Spellman's best friends are inseparable but they have their set flaws. The main storyline detail that was shocking to many viewers was the fact that Harvey and Roz get together in the show. It's interesting dynamic seeing as Sabrina was once in love with Harvey and Roz being her best friend falls for him anyway. It's okay in the end when Sabrina gives her blessing. It shows just how much Sabrina cares for her friends' happiness.
Overall Sabrina's best friends do a good job in their roles. They ultimately accept Sabrina for who she is. They even help her defeat evil forces once or twice. They are more than willing to stick by Sabrina when she needs them most.
Pogue, Reid, and Tyler (The Covenant)
The Covenant is a teen film that's a guilty pleasure for most who are fans. The film has its certain flaws but viewers can't help but watch it over and over. One of the aspects that made the film popular was the coven aspect that revolves around a group of best friends. The title character, Caleb Danvers grew up with his best friends as part of a secret witch coven called the Sons of Ipswich.
His best friends are loyal to the core. Despite having their arguments, they stand by Caleb and each other when a new enemy arrives. They willingly put themselves at risk to protect Caleb's love interest. They even argue with Caleb to allow them to help so he's not alone in the fight.
Bonnie (The Vampire Diaries)
Bonnie is often regarded as one of the best friends to come out of teen drama series. She is Elena Gilbert's best friend from beginning to end. Some might even argue that even their friendship had its flaws. When it comes to Bonnie's role as the best friend she showcases just how dedicated she is.
In the show, Bonnie trusts Elena wholeheartedly with her witch secret and even helps Elena cope with a new supernatural reality. She was also there for Elena when her parents ed. An aspect of Bonnie that is irable is that she always sacrificed herself for Elena's happiness. She even risked her life to bring back Jeremy. Bonnie was always Elena's protective shield with her magic.
Rose (Vampire Academy)
The pendulum swings both ways when it comes to the best friend duo in the film, Vampire Academy. Based on a popular novel of the same name, the film followed Rose Hathaway, a Dhampir, and her best friend Lissa Dragomir, a royal vampire. What makes Rose the ultimate best friend is that she's also Lissa's sworn protector.
Rose had Lissa leave the academy to live in secret in order to keep Lissa safe. Throughout the film, when they return to the academy, Rose is there to always protect her best friend from those who wish to harm her. She even let Lissa feed on her when they were rogue. Rose's bond to Lissa even allows Lissa to awaken her hidden power.
Mike, Dustin and Lucas (Stranger Things)
good example of what loyal best friends look like. The show centers around a girl named Eleven who has telepathic and telekinetic abilities. Mike, Dustin, and Lucas become her best friends and help keep her safe from those looking for her.
Not only are they good friends to Eleven but to their friend Will. They make their own investigation to look for their friend who disappeared. They even make the brave venture alongside Eleven to investigate the dangerous Upside Down.
Stiles (Teen Wolf)
Stiles is inarguably one of the best of the best when it comes to best friends from a supernatural teen show. Audiences fell in love with his charismatic and comical demeanor that perfectly played with the main character, Scott. Although Stile's character does do some mean things, some out of his control, his acts as Scott's best friend outshines it all.
Stiles was by Scott's side through it all. Especially when Scott goes through the life-changing shift as a wolf and all the supernatural chaos that ensues. They're partners in crime and act more like brothers. Stiles is more than willing to go along with any hair-brained scheme or plan. He was even willing to sacrifice himself to save Scott when standing in a pool of gasoline in season three.
Sam & Dean & Castiel (Supernatural)
Sam and Dean are a special case of best friends seeing as their also brothers. But they fit into the category incredibly well because they are each other's trusted companion. Sam and Dena inhabit a lot of the same markers best friends have. They are loyal to one another yet still bicker. They willingly put themselves in harm's way for each other.
One always thinks they know best and think to protect the other first. Sam and Dean aren't just siblings seeing as they go across the country together and sur every obstacle together. The closest they have to a best friend is Castiel. Their relationship blossomed into one strong friendship. Castiel even defies orders from above for Sam and Dean and saves them on multiple occasions.
