fans took to social media to express their sadness over the unexpected announcement, as for a while it seemed like the show would go on forever.

Supernatural follows Sam (Padalecki) and Dean (Ackles) Winchester, two brothers that travel the U.S. hunting evil creatures in a never-ending battle. The series is the last remaining show from the WB network, which was home to several popular series such as the series has had several chances in the past to end on a high note. Now, Padalecki and Ackles have revealed why the time has finally come to end the show with one last set of adventures.

Per EW, Padalecki and Ackles explained the thought process behind ending Supernatural during a convention in Las Vegas. While many shows have ended due to cancellation or pressure from the studio, Padalecki made it known that wasn't the case this time. According to Padalecki, choosing to wrap up the series was a "community decision" in order to end the show strongly. Ackles chimed in to say that the decision wasn't simple, and it had been discussed for quite a while among the cast and crew. He continued by mentioning that everyone had a feeling the end was near, so they decided to start painting the finish line.

Prior to SupernaturalBuffy the Vampire Slayer was regarded by many as the best mythology-based genre series to date. However, the final season will consist of the same 20-episode format that fans are familiar with. Hopefully, Padalecki, Ackles, and the entire cast get the proper sendoff they not only want but deserve.

While season 14 still has a few episodes left, the realization of the end nearing will become more apparent once the season 14 finale airs. Despite many not wanting to say goodbye to the Winchesters, at least the stars that brought them to life intend to send the characters off in a glorious manner. The decision to end the show is very surprising, but since the fifteenth season will see the end of the Winchesters' adventures, fans should expect Supernatural to conclude in memorable fashion.
