We just had the mid-season finale of Supernatural play out on the CW, which means the only finale left now is the proper series finale in just a few short months. This also means that all the theories we might have for the show have to do with the final episode.

Of course, whatever we say here is simply part of our speculation where we give voice to the scenarios that could play out, but there are also theories at large that have gained momentum. To many of those theories, we say a solid “no” and are certain they won’t be happening. With that in mind, here are five finale theories for Supernatural we think could be true, and five that are definitely false.

May Be True: Dean Sacrifices Himself And Sam Settles With Eileen

This is where the series is most likely heading toward, as Eileen’s resurrection has brought on a romantic relationship between herself and Sam. Dean, who has never been in favor of Sam ever having a romance, has now been shown encouraging this coupling.

We’ve also seen Dean settle down once before while this has so far eluded Sam, and it’s very possible that Dean might end up sacrificing himself in the finale and instructing Sam to go and live an “apple pie life” with Eileen. This seems like the only scenario where Dean would happily die.

False: The World Ends And Restarts

Chuck smiles maliciously

Some fans have started to assume that Chuck might have a change of heart by the end of the series and look to made amends over his actions. To this end, the assumption is that Chuck could end the world altogether and start over in a new one without supernatural happenings.

There’s also some theories suggesting that Chuck might die and bring about the end of creation, with a new universe coming about this way. However, this all just seems too far-fetched for it to happen and fans would feel betrayed if everything started over.

May Be True: Amara And Michael Become The Rulers Of The Universe

In the most recent episode, the protagonists came up with the plan of sealing Chuck away to keep the balance of the universe intact. That would naturally leave the leadership of Heaven up for grabs and would be the best time to bring redemption to two former antagonists.

It sounds right that Amara might take over God’s previous job, while Michael could make up for the bad decisions he made under God’s influence. These two could finally just be rulers together, proving the series theme that good can come out even the worst places.

False: Everything Was Chuck's Story

This would be as bad as how JK Rowling has been making terrible changes to the Harry Potter series. After all, if we were to find out that Sam and Dean have been characters this whole time, you can expect fans to start rioting.

Still, there have been a few theories that claim that Chuck has always been writing on his laptop and that the Supernatural novels have simply been being narrated by him this whole time. Under this theory, Chuck is just a writer way in over his head and likes the idea of being God. However, there’s no way the series will go for something like this.

May Be True: Castiel Sacrifices Himself

We don’t know what might happen in the very end, but there’s a big chance that Castiel doesn’t survive to see the end play out. Even Misha Collins wants Castiel to die rather than stay till the end, so we can’t write this theory off in the slightest.

If Sam and Dean were put in a position where a sacrifice from Castiel was necessary, then we can be sure that the latter wouldn’t hesitate to take his own life. Castiel could also be seen sacrificing himself for Jack’s sake or willingly going to the Empty.

False: Castiel Wipes The Winchesters' Memories

One way to ensure that the boys don’t die and aren't split apart, yet still bringing the series to a close, would be to have Castiel make them forget what happened. The extent of this memory wipe could be anything from the overall supernatural world to specifically the final few seasons.

Theorists put Castiel in this position for it to have a certain weight as Castiel would still be watching over his former friends. But we can be quite sure this won’t be happening since it would raise more questions than it resolved and there would be no finality attached to it.

May Be True: Both Boys Die And Reunite In Heaven

Dean hugs Sam after getting out of Hell in Supernatural

This kind of ending was seen in another CW series in The Vampire Diaries, where Damon and Stefan finally reunited with each other in the afterlife. There’s enough to assume Sam and Dean might also follow suit, as there’s more than enough evidence that the brothers are each other’s soulmates.

With God himself most likely beaten in the finale, there really won’t be anything that could top this accomplishment and we could see Sam and Dean dying in the process. The complete “happy ending” can come in the form of the brothers being together in Heaven, with Castiel perhaps also ing them there.

False: An Even Bigger God Than Chuck Arrives

A select few fans like to suggest that, since God and the Darkness are siblings, there had to be a parent entity that brought them both to exist in the first place. Plus, since Chuck has been acting like a total brat this whole time, there could be a chance the true God comes around to put him in place.

Simply reading this theory, however, makes it seem like more of a fanfiction that something we’ll be seeing in canon. There’s also the fact that it would make Sam and Dean look totally irrelevant to the story, which makes for a terrible finale.

May Be True: Life Goes On

Sam and Dean sleeping in the Impala

Jared Padalecki has been in favor of this scenario, where Sam and Dean don’t give up on their “saving people, hunting things” motto and keep fighting. We also have to agree that this might be a way to end the series, as it feels complete yet also keeps things open for interpretation.

Our theory here is that the brothers initially decide to go and have a normal life, only to come to the realization that they’ve always wanted to be the good guys and head back into the Impala to go fight a new case. It would be the perfect bookend if they’re seen heading off to fight another Woman in White, taking us back where we started from.

False: Dean And Castiel Become A Couple

Look, nobody’s a bigger fan of “Destiel” than we are, but the idea that Castiel and Dean might become romantic in the finale is one that won’t be happening no matter how much the fandom wants it. Some theorists have been hoping the current storyline of the two squabbling might lead to a romantic realization, but you shouldn’t hold your breath.

If anything, the two will most likely only it to seeing each other as brothers, so “Destiel” is always going to be something that fans have wanted but never received. It’s definitely going to disappoint a large portion of the fanbase, but we’re putting our money down right now that there won’t be a romance between Dean and Castiel in the finale.
