Geo shared his emotional story about coming out to his family in the early episodes, which immediately warmed the audience and his number one ally, Karla Cruz Godoy, to him, but his loose lips about his Knowledge Is Power advantage made him too big of a target.
Geo was a target from early on in the game and he attributes a lot of the heat he was getting to Lindsay Carmine, who was voted out the episode prior. Geo told Survivor's three-tribe format makes it so there are fewer people on each tribe.
Geo Owns Up To His Shortcomings From Survivor 43
Geo cites his status as an alternate cast member as one of the big reasons he was an early target, but he adds, "The other one was not being the strongest person." Survivor puts a lot of focus on challenge strength, and unfortunately for Geo, the first challenge out of the gate did not go well for him. Geo's tribe did not have to vote anyone out for the first nine days of the game, and in Geo's words, "I was getting a little comfortable." Geo also revealed his advantage that allowed him to steal another player's hidden immunity idol to Karla, who seems to be running the tribe and has a hidden immunity idol in her pocket.
Past seasons of Survivor have shown that keeping secrets is an important part of gameplay. For some reason, in the new era of Survivor, it seems rare that someone finds an advantage and keeps that information to themselves. It could be that so many of the advantages have new stipulations that could change the outcome of any given vote, as we see this week that Jesse Lopez and Jeanine Zheng lost their votes by attempting to win an advantage. It's possible that Karla decided to target Geo due to his new power in the game, but it seems like he had been a potential target from day one.
Survivor 42's champion, Maryanne Oketch, deservedly won her season and used the fact that no one knew she had a hidden immunity idol as a feather in her cap for why she was so deserving. It is surprising that other contestants do not use this same strategy. Regardless, it's a shame that Geo was voted out before audiences got to see him compete at the merge. His bold and risky gameplay will certainly be missed by the time the next episode rolls around.
Survivor 43 airs Wednesday nights at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.
