Many expansion, Legacy of the Sith, could flip the script. BioWare's team ensures both allegiances receive fair treatment as SWTOR encomes the Light Side and the Dark Side in its stories. If Legacy of the Sith holds up to its promises, it's likely players can expect an uphill (or losing) battle against the Dark Side, especially considering the enemies they'll be facing soon.

Star Wars: The Old Republic is a non-canon MMO that explores an era thousands of years before the Original Trilogy. Players side with either the Galactic Republic or the Sith Empire and choose one of eight player classes. Each class experiences a unique origin story. Afterward, players can explore expansions like Shadow of Revan, Knights of the Eternal Empire, Onslaught, and the Legacy of the Sith expansion. Imperial and Republic players will explore Manaan, a neutral planet responsible for creating and exporting kolto, Star Wars' primary medical material.

One of SWTOR's most used villains is Darth Malgus, who first appeared in the game's cinematic trailers. The character later appeared in SWTOR's False Emperor Flashpoint, where he was killed by a t squadron of Sith and Jedi for his betrayal against the Emperor and crimes against the Republic. Darth Malgus Could Win In Legacy Of The Sith

Star Wars The Old Republic villain Darth Malgus

Darth Malgus isn't the only Sith character in Legacy of the Sith, but he's survived far more than many other Sith in the MMO. His ability to survive deadly combat and impressive prowess with the Force assures players won't defeat him easily. While it's unlikely Darth Malgus can rival other Sith enemies like Tenebrae, all signs point towards BioWare utilizing him as SWTOR's next big villain. With 10th Anniversary events planned throughout 2022, Malgus could likely become the biggest threat in the galaxy.

BioWare confirmed that SWTOR's Legacy of the Sith storyline would kickstart the next major arc in the MMO. Expansions like Knights of the Eternal Throne and Knights of the Fallen Empire created a long, cinematic experience with shared characters, overarching plots, and an explosive resolution. However, with Darth Malgus as the primary villain, players are unlikely to kill him in the first expansion. Legacy of the Sith instead presents an opportunity for the heroes to lose and begin the next chapter at a disadvantage.

Despite Star Wars' inclination to let the Jedi claim victory in major series and movies, Legacy of the Sith could explore an alternative storytelling method. The inclusion of Dark Side champions encourages new tactics and battle strategies with darker consequences, and Darth Malgus' legacy in the Old Republic creates a villain with impressive abilities. Star Wars: The Old Republic's Legacy of the Sith expansion releases February 15 for active subscribers, with 10th Anniversary events planned throughout 2022.
