hit movies like Rocky, Rambo, Cliffhanger, Demolition Man, and Judge Dredd, and has recently seen something of a career resurgence with more modern franchises like The Expendables and Creed. Expendables 4, the latest in the franchise, is currently in post-production and will likely release at some point this year.
On the other end of the movie star spectrum, Rogen has very much built his career around more silly and comedic roles, appearing in films like Superbad, Pineapple Express, This Is the End, and Neighbors. In addition to acting, Rogen is also a notable producer, with credits including The Boys, Pam & Tommy, Preacher, and Blockers. Rogen is also hard at work on a new CGI-animated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot, which is due out next year in addition to co-running his very own cannabis company, Houseplant.
In a funny new interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Rogen details the first time he met Stallone, which was at the grand opening of a casino in Las Vegas. The encounter, Rogen recalls, was quite ordinary, but he does getting very hung up on Stallone's first name and thinking about how odd it was. Check out Rogen's hilarious Stallone story below:
"It’s a weird name, right? Well yeah, and it’s true. [Sylvester Stallone]’s a name I grew up with and it’s been in my life as long as I can . I met Sylvester Stallone once at the opening of the Planet Hollywood Casino in Las Vegas, because where else would you meet Sylvester Stallone? And I meeting him and he shook my hand and in the deepest, rumbliest voice I’ve heard he said, ‘I’m Sylvester.’ And at that moment I thinking, ‘I’ve never met another human with the name Sylvester.’ And I don’t even think I’ve heard of another human with the name Sylvester. There’s one Sylvester, Stallone and a cat! There’s two Sylvesters.
But no, it was really weird. With the Stallone. Sylvester Stallone, not a weird name. Sylvester just dangling out there in the wind, shocking to have a man come up to you and say, ‘I’m Sylvester.’ It’s like what, whoa, how many syllables is that? It’s a wild name."
Rogen's story is suitably hilarious but he does have a good point – the name Sylvester is very uncommon. For a movie star, that's probably a good thing, however, with the name being more likely to be ed. Rogen also comically points out that, once Sylvester is combined with the last name, Stallone, it becomes much less weird and sounds normal. Not only that, but the actor's name is also often shortened to Sly, which could have made hearing the full version, Sylvester, even more strange.
The name Sylvester Stallone has become world-renowned, but just hearing Sylvester would understandably feel a bit weird at first. After all, the actor is likely only called Sylvester by those close to him, with news publications more often referencing him by his full or last name. Rogen is clearly having some fun with what is ultimately a fairly tame story but, as proven by the many funny roles he's had over the years, Rogen can make even the most mundane encounter sound hilarious. Viewers can catch Rogen in Hulu's Pam & Tommy, which airs new episodes every Wednesday. In addition to Expendables 4, Stallone is slated to appear in the Guardians of the Galaxy 3.
